When going down hill the engine back pressure is used to hold the car back. No fuel is fed to the injectors. It is in effect an air pump.

L is not a gear change. It puts regenerative braking on the accelerator pedal in addition to the brake pedal. I drive exclusively in L because it makes the operation the same as a Tesla. It does not affect my fuel economy because I don't use the engine unless there is no other choice. I put 1 or 2 gallons of gas in the car every year. It is a town car. Long distance driving is in the Tesla. Battery charging is from the 10 kW of solar panels on the roof of my house.

I have a 2013 which has the same battery as a 2016. I assume in Florida that the air conditioner is on 100% of the time. If you are running in EV Only, power for the air conditioner reduces what is available for driving. The best time for the car where I am (PA) is spring and fall when I can run with no heater and no air conditioner. Below freezing I get about 10 miles of range because of the 5 kW resistance heater. Right now I get between 18 and 20 when using A/C. What is your average speed? As you go above 50mph the air drag gets to be significant since it increases with the square of the speed. Drive at 80 in EV Only and the battery will be empty in nothing flat. The miles number is a calculation based on a lot of parameters. There is no known way to measure the charge in a Li-Ion battery. All they can do is measure what goes in and what comes out. A Tesla has much less effect from ambient temperature because they can heat or cool the battery with liquid circulating through the battery. The Energi uses air from the cabin to cool the battery. I guess the assumption was that if the passengers are happy the battery will be happy.

The rotten egg smell is coming from the 12 volt battery. There is no sulfur in a Li-Ion battery. I don't know your skill set but I have replaced the 12 volt battery in my car at least twice. The fiber shroud has to be removed, it can't be done through the access panel.

First level technical support is probably like most companies. The person is not technically capable. They know how to listen to your complaint, pick out a few key words, search their database for a hit and read the result to you. If no hits they bump to the next level of support. Some will do it live, others will say they will call you. Very seldom has anyone called me back.

MFM uses AT&T. My 2013 came with a 2G modem. Just before 2G went away Ford upgraded it to 3G for free. The car was still under warranty. 4G was already out and they should have gone to 4G. Now 3G is going to sunset in 2022 and 5G is out, it works on my phone. My car is out of warranty. Will they Declare MFM dead and do nothing. (They have already declared the Fusion line dead). That could be bad switches or broken springs in the clock spring which connects the wires to the rotating steering wheel. I would get that looked at because the air bag wires also go through the clock spring.

It's good to know that the data is still in my brain, even if it is sometimes difficult to locate.

There is a procedure to re-synchronize a window. It's on the forum somewhere. My memory says it is as follows: Press the down button and hold it for 10 seconds after the window stops moving. Press the up button and again hold it for 10 seconds after the window stops moving. Test the window operation. Hopefully my memory is correct.

Measure the voltage of the 12 volt battery. If it has died your only option is to replace it, especially if it is the original battery. The car can't be on while charging so that part is expected. A completely discharged wet cell lead acid battery will sustain internal damage. I'm guessing that one of the cells has shorted out.

Does the receptacle you plug in to get hot? If it does it may not be wired correctly. The plug has temperature sensing built in. If the receptacle is the type that has holes for the wire to be inserted, that is fine for a table lamp but not recommended for continuous high current. The wires should be wrapped around the screw and clamped tight.

new user question re 'grade assist'
murphy replied to Eric Wieczorek's topic in Batteries & Charging
Push the button on the gear shift and don't turn it off. It will stay on at least until the car is turned off. Please don't double post questions. The people that answer questions read all of the new posts. -
2017 energi platinum rotary dial lights up
murphy replied to nuspi32's topic in Batteries & Charging
EV Later preserves 95% of the current battery charge. So every time you start the car the charge level drops. If you don't charge it, it will eventually be empty. There is only one battery. Hybrid mode uses the battery so it can't stay charged to 100%. -
It is not recommended because the common extension cords most people have laying around are 18 gauge wire. The wire will heat up which reduces the voltage at the car making it take longer to complete the charge. If it is 80 degrees outside they will probably overheat. 12 gauge will work although I prefer a 10 gauge cord because it has a lower voltage drop. They are expensive because of the much higher copper content.

Energy used to power the A/C is not available to move the car. It appears the car tries to monitor what is going on so it can give realistic range numbers. Try using EV Later when it is that hot out so the cooling comes from gasoline.

Did you start using the air conditioner? Do you drive above 60 mph in electric only mode. There is no way to measure the charge in the battery. They measure what is put in and what is taken out and calculate the range. Where are you located.? A cold (below 65 degrees F) battery is less efficient than a warm battery. When it is below freezing my electric range is cut in half.
-
100% is not a full battery. I think it has been determined that at an indicated 100% the actual charge is around 95%.

It is a hybrid car. The battery is always being used. Every time it is put in EV Later mode it will attempt to preserve 95% of the current charge. Even when the car says the battery is a zero it really isn't. 1.5 kWh of the battery is reserved for normal hybrid use. 0.5 kWh is reserved to protect the battery. The car does not have a traditional starter motor or an alternator. The engine is started by one of the high voltage electric motors. The 12 volt battery is charged by a DC to DC converter. In reverse only the battery is used. The engine is incapable of moving the car in reverse. It may start but it is only generating electricity so an electric motor can power reverse. Most of the time the engine is not directly coupled to the wheels. The only situation I can think of is full throttle acceleration. The accelerator pedal tells the computer what you want. The computer decides what RPM the engine will run at. There is no correlation between the accelerator pedal and vehicle speed. That's probably more than you wanted to know.

Can you connect to the car using a computer and the myfordmobile web site? If not, the data modem in the car may need to be reset. Hard way: Stand on your head in the drivers floor area and remove and re-install fuse #10. The white translucent piece of plastic on the panel is a fuse puller. A really dumb place to put a fuse panel. Easy way: Disconnect the negative battery lead from the battery in the trunk for one minute. The only downside is the car will lose the learned engine operating parameters and have to relearn them. If you can connect to the car with a computer then I would delete the app from the phone and reinstall it. That will include the 24 hour wait to confirm the app in the car.

Is your car located where it can get a good signal from an AT&T cell tower?
-
I don't hear anything I would call creaking. What I do hear sounds like the electric power brake vacuum pump. The engine doesn't run all of the time so they can't use vacuum from the engine to operate the vacuum brake booster. After the car has been parked for a while press the brake pedal hard and see if you hear the sound of the pump starting up.

Loud static coming from drivers side rear deck speaker
murphy replied to kjhansen's topic in Audio, Navigation & SYNC
Sub-woofers only produce sound if the music being played has sound in the frequency range that they support. Play something that has booming bass. The sub-woofer on my home music system operates automatically. It has a pilot light that is red when it is sleeping and green when it is on. Very often when I turn the system on it will stay sleeping until something pays that has loud bass. -
Preparation Before Your 12 Volt Battery Dies
murphy replied to murphy's topic in Batteries & Charging
Connect a small rope to the emergency trunk open handle. Fold down the right rear seat back and attach the other end of the rope to the seat back latch bar. Use emergency key to open driver's door. It's inside of the key fob. Open right rear door. Fold down the seat back. Pull the rope. Trunk is now open. That is one of the reasons that my car has an AGM 12 volt battery.
