prospective owner, a few questions about realistic mpg.
murphy replied to roastbeef's topic in Lounge - Fusion Energi
Use the engine on the freeway and electric in city traffic. I have no idea what my "mpg" is. I last bought gas a year ago and the tank is still 1/3 full. My longest drive from home is 10.5 miles. I only use gas in the winter when it's cold outside. -

In southern CA you should easily get 22 miles on a charge as long as you don't do jack rabbit starts. It takes slightly over 2 hours to charge an empty battery using a 240 volt charger or between 5 and 6 hours using the 120 volt charger that comes with the car. Is that 20 mile commute the one-way or round trip distance? My MPGe is in my signature. -
How long should it take to get a replacement charger?
murphy replied to Locutus's topic in Batteries & Charging
Assuming the car came with a full tank of gas you may as well start burning it because when it reaches 18 months EV Only will go away until it burns off most of the gas. -
An electric certified dealer is suposed to have two techs and two sales persons trained on the car at a minimum.

I was trying to skip this mornings GO time but MFM could not connect to the car. I tried last night and again this morning with no response. MFM still showed the charging cable connected to the car. I had disconnected it when charging finished two days ago. I grabbed the remote and pushed the lock button a few times. MFM then was able to connect to the car right away. Apparently the cell radio goes to sleep and isn't always waiting for a connection. :(

It is not possible to completely reset the vehicle. Federal law prohibits resetting of the odometer. The trip meters are probably stored in the same non-volatile storage as the odometer. The other items can probably be reset by the dealer's diagnostic computer. There would be a lot of complaints if the car did a complete reset every time the 12 volt battery died which is all that a hard reset is. Disconnecting the HVB does nothing since it is already disconnected by the relays opening when the car is turned off.

Vehicle Alarm - to stop alarm start vehicle.

If MyKey is not enabled all fobs (up to 4) should be exactly the same. -

The map on the SD card comes from Here.com. Maybe a value charge can't be set up unless the car is at the location. I don't use value charging since my electricity comes directly from the Sun and my power company rate is the same 24 hours per day. -

My point was that you can't set up a charge location, if you have never been there to charge, if the map address is wrong. By trial and error I have figured out that the car thinks I live at 360 when I actually live at 312. The master map is wrong and I gave up trying to get it corrected 6 years ago. When I go to the Here web site, that map is correct but they have never bothered to put the current web site map into the SD card. -

That would be true if the map was correct. When I put in my address the result is at least 1/4 mile from where my house is actually located. -

That display took me by surprise until I realized it is your Focus. -

Charge profiles are location dependent. If you are not at home it should select the default profile. Hopefully you didn't program the default profile for use at home. The default profile should be a charge it now profile. For Home create a new profile called Home and configure it how you want it to work at home. It will only be in effect when you are at home. You must be at home when you create the home profile. -

They need to develop better testing methods. With the modules interconnected by a common comunication bus the error indications may have nothing to do with the actual problem. A module that is corrupting the bus can cause other modules to report errors that don't exist. I wonder if their diagnostic system can monitor the bus and catch and identify traffic that shouldn't be there. -
One thing many people forget to include in their calculations when looking at the purchase of a full electric car is the cost of the gasoline that they will no longer be buying. As an Energi owner that may not be significant. I don't take trips out of town with my Energi so I spent $36 for gasoline in 2014 and still have 1/3 of that tank left. I also have 10 kW of PV solar panels so my electricity is free, ignoring what I paid for the panels since I consider that to be a home improvement similar to adding a room to the house. It is almost certain that a 30 amp dryer circuit was run with 10 gauge wire. The most continuous current that can be drawn from that outlet in the USA is 80% or 24 amps. The highest current that a Tesla with a single charger installed can use is 40 amps. 40 amps continuous requires a 50 amp circuit (80% of 50 is 40). A 50 amp circuit, up to about a 100 foot run, requires 4 conductor (two hots, neutral, ground) 6 gauge wire. That is about $150.00 just for the wire. Do you have any friends that might be electricians or know an electrician that could give you advice in person? Advice from me or anyone else on the internet is worth exactly what you paid for it. I can't evaluate your situation from 2000 miles away.

You do if you don't want the hassle of moving the supplied charger out of and into the trunk if you want to be able to charge when away from home and not near a supercharger or a J1772 charger. Just like the charger that came with my Energi lives in the trunk the Tesla charger would also.
-
If you are even remotely considering getting a Tesla and keeping the Energi get a 40 amp charger. That will handle both of them.

Yes, as long as the turn signal is not on.

After dodging the dead 12vt battery issue for 2 years...
murphy replied to shaggy314's topic in Batteries & Charging
Ford hasn't quite made it into the interconnected world yet. A Tesla receives all of the updates automatically "over the air". They can then be scheduled to install at a time of the owner's choosing, like when he/she is sound asleep. -

Yes. http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1258-the-bxt-99r-390-is-a-standard-car-battery/?do=findComment&comment=7276 I have an AGM battery in my car. I also have a 12 volt 7 amp-hour gel cell in the glove compartment with a small jumper cable made from 12 gauge wire that can be used to "jump" the car using the terminals under the hood if necessary. So far it hasn't been necessary. -
After dodging the dead 12vt battery issue for 2 years...
murphy replied to shaggy314's topic in Batteries & Charging
With a fully charged 12 volt battery the three 12 volt power ports stay on for around 70 minutes and are then turned off. With a weak 12 volt battery they are turned off as soon as the driver's door is opened after the car is turned off. The computers are always on. Accessing the car remotely via MFM wakes the car up. I've measured in excess of 10 amps being drawn from the 12 volt battery when MFM wakes it up. It's an undersized battery and if it has ever been completely dead it is also a damaged battery. Wet cell lead acid batteries are almost always damaged by being completely discharged. -
I think it is telling that there is no hint on the outside of the envelope to indicate who it is from. My Energi is an around town car. I don't use it for long trips anymore. I've been here for 38 years so I don't need a map. The highway at the end of my street was widened around 6 years ago. The normal speed limit is 45. During the widening project the speed limit was 30. Both the A4 and A5 card still report it as 30. I tried to report the error but that was ignored.

There must be clear lane markings on the edge of the road for it to work. The lines in the display are green if the lane edge has been detected. They are not green if the lane edge has not been detected. A correction or alert is not possible if the edge has not been detected. I have a 2013 in which it is off by default. I hardly ever turn it on. If you drift over the line without a turn signal being on it should alert and if you don't correct it should adjust the steering to bring the car back into the lane. This is not an automatic lane keeping system. If your hands are off the wheel there should be an audio command to put your hands back on the wheel. With your hands on the wheel steer the car toward a lane edge slowly. There should be resistance in the wheel as it starts ot do the correction.

120 or 240 volt charging? Anything else on the same circuit? A large load, such as an A/C compressor, starting up can drop the voltage quickly enough that it might be detected as a fault.

I don't have an iPhone but I do have an iPad. I recommend that you use a computer to get the car linked to the MFM web site before access with the app is attempted. That means answering the question on the car's screen twice 24 hours apart.

It's a personal choice. All of my trips are short. I don't expect the ICE to run until late fall. My gas tank is 1/3 full and was last filled in June 2014. Yes it has stabilizer in it.
