The short version is that the original modem will not work after 12/31/2016 since AT&T is shutting down 2G service.

Key fob isn't working, can't access vehicle
murphy replied to caycemd's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Was the car bought off of a dealer's lot? They typically let them sit and eventually the battery dies. This wasn't a problem in the distant past since when the car was off there was no drain on the battery. Cars today are loaded with microprocessors that are always on so the constant drain can discharge the battery in a week or two. When a wet cell lead acid battery dies material flakes off of the plates and collects at the bottom of the cells. If the pile of junk gets high enough to short the plates together that cell is destroyed. -
Key fob isn't working, can't access vehicle

It sounds like your 12 volt battery is dead. There is a hidden key slot in the driver's door handle. A slip on cover has to be removed to use the key. That gets the door open and allows the hood to be opened. Next a jumper battery has to be connected to the jumper points under the hood. That will reactivate the car and allow it to start. Once started the jumper battery can be disconnected. -
I have done it in a 2013. The power connection is in the housing above the mirror.

Your owner.ford.com account should show a warranty extension for the APIM. There has to be a reason that they extended the APIM warranty. Maybe the APIM went nuts are messed up the other modules. They all communicate on the same bus.

My Ford Mobile - Incorrect car image and color
murphy replied to dnorris78's topic in My Ford Mobile
Delete the car and then add it back using the website, not the app. You get one chance to select the color. Once the color is set the option is hidden. -
My dealer ordered the modem without my bringing the car in. I took the car in last Thursday morning and got it back Friday afternoon. In addition to the modem they also replaced the charge ring because segment 2 was burned out. Access to the modem requires some disassembly of the car to get access to it.

Charging after the MFM report that charging is complete is the 12 volt battery being charged.
-
By flashing I meant that when the charging plug is inserted into the car the four light segments should flash once in turn before you hear the contactor in the car pull in, Shortly after that you should hear the contactor in the EVSE pull in. That's with my 240 volt EVSE. I don't remember if the contactor in the 120 volt EVSE is audible.

Yes I can set GO times from the MFM website. I also found that I had to re-enable the schedule in the car. The red GO Times schedule sync is pending for Sparky. never goes away however. I have never has a charge schedule since my electric rates are the same 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Does the 4th segment flash when charging is started? I just had my charge indicator ring replaced because segment 2 burned out. When charging of the HVB is finished the car may continue the connection to charge the 12 volt battery.

My modem upgrade was completed today. I just finished charging the battery. The dash indicates 24 miles but MFM says 19 miles. 19 miles was the dash reading when I dropped the car off yesterday for the update. :gaah:

Does the FSA appear in the owner.ford.com account for the car? Did you receive a notice in the mail for the car?

There is a satellite radio demo period from November 16 through November 29. 60 channels are available. http://www.siriusxm.com/sxmlp416?sxmlpId=listen11

They should not need to see the car for a Field Service Action. All they need is the VIN to look up the action. They are not determining if something is broken. They are replacing a part that Ford has dictated needs to be replaced.

Given your location I will guess that you are running the heater. Try a trip with a warm coat, heater off, seat heater on, and steering wheel heater on if you have it. Don't run in EV Only mode on a freeway. That uses the battery in a hurry. I get 22 in the summer, 18 or 19 in the spring and fall, and 10 when it is below freezing. Low temperatures won't hurt the battery but they do reduce its capacity. If you have a 240 volt EVSE (charger) and use GO times to preheat the car it will be a little better. GO time heating doesn't work very well with the 120 volt EVSE that comes with the car. 120 volts times 12 amps = 1440 watts. 240 volts times 16 amps = 3840 watts.

Dealer Lost Charger / Charger Recommendations
murphy replied to zsetley's topic in Batteries & Charging
The unit that comes with the car is 120 volts only and take over 5 hours to charge the battery. A 240 volt unit will charge the battery in a little over 2 hours plus it gives useful preheating in the winter time. Just to be sure, did you remove the carpet in the lower part of the trunk? The charger and an air compressor with built in tire sealant should be there. Also be sure to register the car with Ford at https://owner.ford.com There is an outstanding recall to upgrade the modem, that allows My Ford Mobile to work, from 2G service to 3G service. As of December 31, 2016 AT&T is shutting down 2G service and the original modem will no longer work. Any unit that has a J-1772 connector, with the possible exception of early Nissan LEAF units should work. Here is one example https://store.clippercreek.com/featured/lcs-20-lcs-20p-16-amp-level-2-ev-charging-station 240 volts at 16 amps is the most the car can use although any station that can handle more than that will work. -
It took a couple of weeks for my dealer to get the modem. It will be installed next Thursday.

The seat heater should solve your butt problem. :happy feet:

My dealer's web site says that he has 21 in stock. http://www.fordofjenkintown.com/new-inventory/index.htm?compositeType=new&year=2017&make=Ford&model=Fusion+Energi&start=0&sort=&facetbrowse=true&quick=true&searchLinkText=SEARCH&showInvTotals=false&showRadius=false&showReset=false&showSubmit=true&facetbrowseGridUnit=BLANK&showSelections=true&dependencies=model%3Amake%2Ccity%3Aprovince%2Ccity%3Astate&suppressAllConditions=true&newListingAlias=%2Fnew-inventory%2Findex.htm&usedListingAlias=%2Fused-inventory%2Findex.htm&certifiedListingAlias=%2Fcertified-inventory%2Findex.htm

Are we crazy for wanting an Energi?!
murphy replied to jessa07's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I custom ordered mine in January of 2013 before they started production. It was built on April 1 and I drove it home on April 15. It was the first one to arrive at my dealer. They still don't "get it". I receive many emails during the year advertising new cars that they want me to buy. There has never been an ad for an Energi. -
It's the manufacturer trying to maximize sales at the end of each quarter to make Wall Street happy. Tesla schedules overseas shipments at the beginning of a quarter to maximize the chance that they will be credited sales by the end of the quarter.

Life is short. Get what you want. I gave up justifying purchases a long time ago. I am retired. My furthest destination is 10.5 miles. My engine doesn't run in the summer. Once or twice per season for spring and fall. 50% of the time in the winter. Electricity is free from my PV solar panels. I haven't sent any money to the power company since they were installed a little over 3 years ago. -
The tax credit for an electric vehicle begins to expire when the manufacturer sells 200,000 cars in the USA. It's a staged reduction but I can't remember the details.
