12 Volt battery just died on my 2017 Energi Platinum.
murphy replied to Bigsam411's topic in Batteries & Charging
My dealer installed the outside EVSE but always parked cars waiting for service in front of it making its use a hassle. Then they built a building extension where the EVSE was located. I have not found one since that happened. -

My dealer is electric certified and I finally got them to stop telling me I need an oil change every 3000 miles. -
My electric bill doesn't increase because I have 10 kW of solar panels on the roof of my house.
-
The requirement is 20,000 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first.

The "trickle charging" after the high voltage battery finishes charging is the 12 volt battery being charged. Don't disconnect until it is done. If you drive the car multiple times per day there should not be a problem. If you drive it once a week it is best to put a 12 volt battery charger on it while it is parked. The car is a computer on wheels. Most of the microprocessors run 24/7. IMHO a wet cell lead acid battery is the wrong battery for this car. It should be an AGM battery but they cost about twice as much as the wet cell battery. I put an AGM battery in my 2013, in 2013, and it is still going strong. It is not an easy change since it involves removing the battery tray and cutting the end off of it with a hacksaw to allow the AGM battery to fit. I could not find an AGM battery that was the same physical size as the OEM battery. AGM - absorbed glass mat There is no liquid that could spill in an AGM battery. When a wet cell lead acid battery is completely discharged material flakes off of the plates and collects at the bottom of the cell. When the pile of debris reaches the bottom of the plates it shorts out that cell and that is the end of the battery. An AGM battery does not have this problem.

Did you verify that the rubber separators on the trunk lid torsion bars are positioned so that the bars can't touch each other or the underside of the package shelf?
-
It's in the left dash screen on my 2013, not the center console. It is also included in a vehicle health report.

Definitely a dead 12 volt battery. Connect a jumper battery or battery charger to the terminals under the hood. If the doors are locked, slip the cap off of the driver's door handle and use the key hidden inside of the key fob to unlock the door. Then pop the hood. The procedure is documented in the Owner's Manual.

The Energi can put a lot more energy back into the "big" battery during regen. Someone used regen coming down from the top of Pike's Peak to completely recharge the HVB.

My dealer got the modem without seeing my car first. When it came in I took the car in and they installed it.
-
Why did he look at the old modem "to insure correct replacement modem"? I hope he didn't put in the same old modem instead of the new modem. Did you delete your car from MFM and then add it back?

Wow! Send that service manager to electric car school. The car doesn't have an alternator or a starter motor. The 12 volt battery is charged by a DC to DC converter from the HVB. The ICE is started by one of the high voltage electric motors. After charging the HVB from the wall outlet the 12 volt battery is charged if it needs it. I drive exclusively in EV Now as long as I have a charge in the battery. I have gone for over a year on one tank of gas. -

Do you leave anything connected to the power ports when the car is off? They stay on for about 70 minutes after the car is turned off. That would be an unnecessary drain on the battery. Anytime you use the app to check on the car the car wakes up with a load in excess of 10 amps at the beginning. -
Kill-O-Watt meters reset if incoming power is lost for an instant. At about 7 kWh per full charge that would be 7 x 30 = 210 kWh per month if charged once per day. If you want to measure your charging kWh usage, install one of these. http://www.ekmmetering.com/120-volt-basic-pass-through-kwh-meter-2-wire-50a-60hz-ekm-15ids.html I have the 120 volt version and the 240 volt version. They retain their reading for at least 10 years in the absence of incoming power.

Automatic System Updates....Scanning for Updates
murphy replied to Davidoo's topic in Audio, Navigation & SYNC
This is apparently something new with the 2017 model year. My 2013 does not have that capability. Until some more 2017 owners join the forum there may be a lack of answers for you. -
Not a problem. It's just that you are more likely to get correct answers from people that have the same car that you do.
-
First, you are in the wrong forum. That VIN is for a standard Ford, not a Fusion Energi. Second, my recollection is that My Ford Touch does not support app installation. The screen you found is for installing Sync firmware updates.

In the 40s will definitely affect the battery. Did you also have the heat on? You need to be in the 70s to get the rated mileage.
-
It is possible. Batteries are very inefficient at low temperatures. It doesn't hurt them, they just don't work. Mine has to get to 70 degrees F before it works normally. If you also had the heat on that would also force the engine to come on. Spring through fall I drive mostly on the battery. In the winter I can't avoid the engine.

12 volt battery died, replaced it now it only runs on gas
murphy replied to Ben Bruce's topic in Batteries & Charging
How old is the gas in your tank? If it gets to be 18 months old the ICE will run until all but 1/8 tank has been used. The burn can be aborted by putting gas in the tank. -

Is the HVB charged? A discharged HVB is the only state that I am aware of that prevents selecting EV Now. One remote possibility is that with a dead 12 volt battery the ICE has lost its operating parameters and must be driven for some period of time to relearn them. -
No, the car is limited to 16 amps at 240 volts. It can use the 32 amp EVSE but will not go above 16 amps. I use a 40 amp EVSE because my other car needs it. Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). The charger is in the car.

Mine was done last November. The number is CPPM ESN: T67E0xxx where the xxx is a number.
