What is the temperature in Phoenix. Li-Ion batteries do not like to be hot.

What is your definition of best? Fastest trip, operating economy, maintenance costs, etc? It is a great car. The only improvement I would like would be for it to have a Tesla battery (100 kWh versus 7.6 kWh).

Are you applying power to the charger before you connect the charger to the car? If you do it in the reverse order the the power failure timer will delay the start of charging for up to 30 minutes.

Only you can decide that. One thing you may or may not be aware of is when it gets cold the efficiency of the battery goes down. I get about 10 miles when it is below freezing. The heater in electric mode is a 5 kW resistance heater. Energy used for heating is not available for moving the car. If you plan to preheat the car, connected to the power company, on cold mornings you need a 240 volt EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) [Many people incorrectly call it a charger, the charger is built into the car]. The one that comes with the car maxes out at 120 volts x 12 amps = 1440 watts. That's about the same as a high end toaster. At 240 volts x 16 amps = 3840 watts it is possible to preheat the car before you leave. There is a lot to unlearn with this car. There is no correlation between engine rpm and vehicle speed. The accelerator pedal tells the computer what you want. The computer sets the engine rpm for maximum efficiency. It is an Atkinson cycle engine instead of the common Otto cycle engine. It will sound different because of the blow back into the intake manifold since the intake valve opens when there is still exhaust pressure in the cylinder.

If you can charge at work then you can use all of the battery on the way to work. Going to work is easy. Going home is more difficult since you have to preserve enough battery so you can drive electric in the traffic near home. Electric driving is more efficient at lower speeds. Actually so is gasoline driving but the gasoline range is a lot bigger.

Drive the city portion in EV Only. Drive the high speed portion in EV Later. If you use Auto it will use all of the battery and then switch to hybrid mode. High speed driving using the battery will use up the battery really fast. Air drag increases with the square of the speed. I can't give you a mpg estimate. I'm retired and only do local driving. My engine hasn't run since April.

I don't think I have used mine more than 5 times in 5 years. 240 volts is so much faster. It's not a problem for a properly wired outlet. -

When the 12 volt battery dies some things get reset. The engine operating profile is one. The HVB characteristics may well be another. In the case of the engine it takes at least 25 miles of varying speed driving for the profile to be relearned. It is not a big deal, it had to do this when the car was new. There is no way to measure the charge in a Li-Ion battery. The computer monitors the incoming and outgoing current and estimates what the battery is capable of supporting. Use of heat or air conditioning will affect how far you can drive in electric mode. Heat is much worse than air conditioning. In the middle of winter I get around 10 miles. It's currently telling me I have 24 but I can't go more than 21 in the summer. Observe it for a while to see if it is trending back to what you expect. -
Sirius has nothing to do with anything other than listening to music and traffic data. The car communicates with the Ford servers using a cellular data modem. In the USA it uses the AT&T cellular network. I don't know but it probably uses Rogers in Canada. The car came with a 2G modem. On 12/31/2016 AT&T shut down their 2G network. Ford upgraded my car to a 3G modem for free. I don't know what happened in Canada. If you have a Ford Owner account it will list the outstanding recalls. The data modem upgrade was a recall. There have been cases of the modem stopping working. Pulling fuse #10 or disconnecting the the negative 12 volt battery lead for a few minutes will reset the modem and get it working again. I do the battery disconnect since the fuse is very difficult for me to reach.

I edited your title. Voltage in the USA is 120 volts. I have no idea where this mass belief that it is 110 volts came from. -
There is no risk with mine. It's been used 3 or 4 times in 5-1/2 years. I charge on 240 volts.

Did you set up an account on owner.ford.com? In that account you will find recalls for your car listed. I would hope that it had been done. AT&T's 2G network was turned off 12/31/2016.- 7 replies

Why doesn't MFM work? Did you get your modem updated for free from 2g (no longer supported) to 3G? If you did, and it doesn't work, pull fuse 10 or disconnect the negative lead of the battery in the trunk for a couple of minutes to reset the modem. I've never used value charge (electric rate is the same 24/7/365) but discussions in the past seemed to indicate that all 24 hours in a day must be accounted for to make it work.- 7 replies

The battery miles display is a mathematical estimate. Since the battery wasn't regularly charged the computer has no clue what the battery is capable of. There is no known way to measure the charge in a Li-Ion battery. The computer measures what is put into it and what comes out of it. Don't drive at high speed on the highway under battery power. Air drag increases with the square of the speed. Use the battery for around town and in traffic jams. Switch to EV Later for high speed driving. The computer will gradually figure out the capacity of the battery. The battery capacity will be much lower when winter arrives. It works best at 72° F.

It was not designed by a woman. Anyone with a handbag over their left arm is going to hit the buttons. I haven't hit the park button but I have opened the fuel door when I was trying to put the car back into EV Only mode. I've never figured out why it will stay in EV Only for weeks and then for some unknown reason will switch to Auto. I've had the car for over 5 years and have never selected Auto on purpose. -
Your 12 volt battery has died. It's over 5 years old at this point. If one of the cells has shorted there is no recovery for that battery. The easiest way to restore the car to operation is to install a new 12 volt battery. It is not done through the access door. The fiber panel must be removed to get access to the battery. Is the HVB charged? If not, once the 12 volt battery is installed the HVB may need to be charged a bit. The HVB is what supplies the energy to rotate the engine to start it. Without 12 volts available the HVB is disconnected from the car by two contactors.

The GO time is the time that the preconditioning is to be completed. If the HVB is not charged to 100% and the car is set to charge now it is going to start charging as soon as it is plugged in.

I'm confused. Your forum location says that you are in Orange County in the U.S. Pacific Coast region. Did you move to Arizona? The GPS time reset sets the car to standard time for your current location as determined by the GPS being locked to at least three satellites. Auto time zone update on means that as you drive from one time zone to another time zone the clock will automatically change the displayed time. I don't know how well that can work since the car was not programmed to understand DST.

It's unclear to me if the car is capable of executing a GO time all by itself. If it depends on the server for the trigger then that means the server time zone has to be correct. The car knows nothing about DST. If you set the clock in the car using the GPS sync button it will be set to standard time. If DST is in effect you have to bump the hour up by 1 following a GPS clock set.

Under Account in the app does it show the correct time zone? Mine shows (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time. -5 is only valid when Daylight Saving Time is in effect. Normally Eastern time is GMT-04:00. Mountain would be GMT-06:00 normally and GMT-07:00 if DST is in effect.

The original modems were on the AT&T 2G network. AT&T shut down the 2 G network 12/31/2016. There was a recall to upgrade the modems to a 3G version for free. I don't see how yours could still have been working if it hadn't been upgraded. You can always see your recalls in your https://owner.ford.com account.
