Three possibilities come to mind. The DC to DC converter has failed so the 12 volt battery is not being charged. The car does not have an alternator. Something that is supposed to turn off when the car is off is staying on and draining the battery. The 12 volt battery needs to be replaced. A 12 volt wet cell lead acid battery that has been completely discharged has internal damage caused by material flaking off of the plates.

In the trunk directly towards the front of the car and above the 12 volt battery you will find several wires that are probably laying on top of the sharp edge of a metal panel. There were reports years ago of these wires having the insulation rubbed through and causing fan problems. At that time I wrapped mine in a thick layer of soft foam to keep them away from the metal edge. If that is the problem just separating them from each other and the metal edge should solve the problem.

The battery isn't designed to take any more. Charging Li-Ion batteries is tricky. They self destruct when overcharged. Consider the penalty if you hold a glass beaker in your bare hand and over fill it with hydroflouric acid.

A dead 12 volt battery loses all of the engine operating parameters. It takes about 25 miles of driving with the engine running for the computer to relearn the engine operating parameters. Drive the car in EV Later mode to force the engine to run.

Thank you for the picture. I'm still waiting for my dealer to do something.

I don't think drilling into the case would be a good idea. Instead use these https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-All-Weather-Fasteners-Inches-RFD7090/dp/B00347A8EO/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Scotch%28R%29+All-Weather+Fasteners&qid=1556891226&s=gateway&sr=8-2 to make the attachment.

Congratulations. Your dealer would probably have charged you $100 to do the same thing. I see you live in snow country. Any chance that water froze the plug to the seal and pulled it out of position when the plug was removed? Winter is supposedly over now but you might want to keep an eye on that next winter. The recall I mentioned is for 2013 to 2015 cars.
-
Here is what my 2013 looks like. It has only been used about 10 times. I installed a 240 volt EVSE in 2013. You could try pushing the ring back where it belongs. Do you use it in a garage? If you can't push it back you could remove it. My unit is under recall for a potential overheating AC plug. I'm not sure how many years are involved but if yours is under recall that would get you a new one for free. Is your car still under warranty? If it is try to get it replaced as a defective design. I don't know if it falls under the unique hybrid components warranty.

Is it an Energi or a Hybrid? An Energi can be charged from the wall using the EVSE that should be in the trunk below the cover. A Hybrid will need help from a dealer. If memory serves it is a 350 volt battery so it's not discharged. The engine in either case is started by the high voltage battery. The 12 volt battery must also be in good shape to connect the HVB to the car . You have to find and repair the link the first responders cut to safe the car. The high voltage disconnect is behind the right rear seat back. The rear seat backs fold down. Starting the car does not involve starting the engine. If the car is on there will be a green icon in the lower right corner of the dash display. Be careful, High voltage DC can kill you quickly. Unlike AC you can't let go if you get across DC. One hand behind your back at all times when near high voltage DC.

Can you post a photograph of the new one? My dealer is apparently having trouble getting me the new one. 10 days and counting.

Go here https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter the VIN to see if there are any outstanding safety recalls on the car.

Can't help yet. I think mine is on a slow boat from China. Monday will be a week since it was supposed to have been ordered.

You need an electric certified dealer to work on an Energi. If they aren't certified they really don't know anything about it.

2020 Ford Escape PHEV, 14.4 kWh/30+ EV miles, FWD only

They aren't meeting the competition. The 2018 Honda Clarity PHEV is rated at 47 miles. My friend has one and gets over 50 miles. -
2016 Ford Fusion Waranty Coverage for California Cars
murphy replied to xtreme1777's topic in General Discussion
My 2013 came with an 8 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the Hybrid Unique Components. Do you have the Monroney sticker for the car? It spells out the warranty. I think the longer warranty is for California and a group of other states that follow California's lead. -
12V Electrical Outlets
murphy replied to doug121041's topic in Electrical, Gauges, Instruments, Lighting, Rear View Mirror
The 12 volt outlets in my 2013 Energi time out after 70 minutes. They also turn off if the car detects the 12 volt battery is low and goes into battery preservation mode. -
Apparently Ford takes the PHEV designation literally. It appears that as long as the car will still operate as a hybrid they consider the car to be okay. PHEV - Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle There is no way to measure the charge in the battery directly. All they can do is measure what goes in and what comes out and use a calculation to "guess" what the mileage will be. Tesla does a similar analysis. They don't care about range loss. However if one of the 16 modules in the battery fails, then they will fix it. When my Tesla, at 920 miles on the odometer, dropped from a range of 288 miles to 100 miles they analyzed the battery and gave me a new one. The Tesla is not a hybrid. If the battery dies, the car goes no where.

I can't help with this one. I've never used value charging. My electricity costs the same all day, every day. Value charging is of no value to me.

12 Volt battery just died on my 2017 Energi Platinum.
murphy replied to Bigsam411's topic in Batteries & Charging
Schumacher AC powered battery charger. I do have an emergency jumper battery in the car. The car will be 6 years old on April 1 and I have never needed to use it. -
EV+ prevents the engine from coming on when you are approximately 0.25 mile from home on the assumption that you will recharge the battery when you get home. If you request more acceleration than the electric motor is capable of providing the engine will start. There are no adjustments other than I think EV+ can be turned off.

12 Volt battery just died on my 2017 Energi Platinum.
murphy replied to Bigsam411's topic in Batteries & Charging
When the car is off the HVB is disconnected from the car by two contactors. The 12 volt battery is needed to activate the contactors to connect the HVB to the car. The HVB is needed to be online to start the engine. The car does not have a starter motor. Tesla uses the HVB to keep the 12 volt battery charged. Four times a day it charges the 12 volt battery from 50% to 100%. This is the source of vampire drain in a Tesla. An Energi left sitting for a week would have a dead HVB in addition to a dead 12 volt battery if they had done this. The current Tesla has a 100 kWh HVB as compared to the 7.6 kWh HVB in the 2017 Energi. When my Energi will be sitting for a while, like a week, I connect a 12 volt battery charger to the battery jump terminals under the hood to keep the 12 volt battery charged. There are many processors in the Energi that are never turned off. That is the reason for the drain on the 12 volt battery. -
12 Volt battery just died on my 2017 Energi Platinum.
murphy replied to Bigsam411's topic in Batteries & Charging
When the car is turned on the DC to DC converter starts charging the 12 volt battery from the HVB, It's the same function an alternator provides in a standard car. The Energi does not have an alternator.
