Not sure if this helps but one of the most convenient features is the remote start feature. I turn the car on from my phone and I get into a nice warm car. You do use the ICE to heat the car but I think it's way better than not having it warm. One observation about the climate system, specifically heating the vehicle, is that it takes a bit longer to get warm than my other vehicles from a cold start. Basically, I will be almost a mile down the road before any air flows from the system. It's about 3 to 5 miles before I actually get heat. I will say the system does a great job keeping my temperature but getting there is a pain. Unless, of course, I use the autostart feature. I agree with Gigi 100%, I like the Energi's smooth and quiet ride. And sneaking up on pedestrians is kind of fun too when they turn around and see two tons of steel behind them that they didn't know existed. I mean, I don't do it on purpose. It's mostly for those people who confuse the street for a sidewalk when people are trying to drive. Does that make me a horrible person?

@Apogee1, I think the wood trim you speak of is available on the SE and not the Titanium, which is what you probably ordered. I have had an Acura TL and a BMW 525i and this is by far my favorite vehicle. It may not be a luxury car in name but it is in comfort and quality.

I almost always lease my vehicles and I leased my Energi. Generally, a good lease takes into consideration surface scratches and small chips as a matter of wear and tear. You do need to be wary of dings, mainly big ones, but for the most part I find leases to be hassle free. Now leasing is an interesting situation because it's not for everyone. But if you keep your milage low and avoid any major damage, you can possibly come out with positive equity at the end of the lease giving you more wiggle room should you decide to either trade the vehicle in for another or buy it. And if the damage is costly at the end, you could always buy the car at the end of the lease and keep it or sell it as a private seller.

I didn't purchase the package from Ford but my dealer had their own maintenance package and I got them to throw it in with the vehicle. If you haven't taken possession of the vehicle yet, I'd start negotiating and seeing what they can do. Here is the thing, if you drive this thing mostly electric, you won't be needing an oil change for a while. Regenerative braking really saves you on using your friction brakes. The big things will most likely be tires and wipers and cabin air filter. Most maintenance packages don't cover tires. And wipers and air filters are cheap. So is it worth it? Depends on how much maintenance you'd expect to pay for.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your accident but I'm glad you and your son could walk away from it. Second, did you get GAP insurance? You should see if you got that at purchase from your dealer. I rolled GAP into my cost and my insurance provider also offers it at no additional cost. It helps in cases like this to get a new vehicle.

Wow, who knew there was so much software in this car that could make this thing go crazy? I had my car reprogrammed and all I had was a mirror that would always reset it's position on the drivers side. It did that until I restored it back to memory. But still, it's kind of scary in a way.

Thanks everyone. I have this thing hooked up nicely. I have a huge, high amp, extension cord running from the receptacle to the charger. I placed the charger on a trash bag and loosely covered it with the same bag, and I ran the connector directly to the vehicle. I've done this before on dry days but with the snow, I was worried. But I think this will work out just fine. If I haven't said it before, I will say it now: this car is AWESOME!!!

I read the above article and I just don't get this whole "longer sales time" for selling an EV. I mean, most people I know that look at a hybrid or PHEV or EV are educating themselves online before going into a dealer. I know in my case, I had narrowed my choice between the Prius and the Fusion. It was so simple, I walked in to both a Toyota and Ford dealer, liked the Ford better, found the best incentives, compared prices, and drove off the lot. Simple. Any length in the process was my doing while I considered options.

I tried searching for this topic but I couldn't find it so I apologize if there is any redundancy. Right now, I'm charging my Energi using the included level 1 charger and my car is typically parked outside. As many of you on the east coast are aware, we have had some fairly large amounts of snow. As such, I've resisted plugging in my vehicle because I don't know how the charger will react. Does anyone know if the charger is weather resistant? Does anyone have any experience?

Same thing happened to my vehicle and the TSB was applied and now all is well. I know you hate the service department but they sure did help me out.

@jeff_h, It's a new transponder. It could have just been my old car. I had a 2011 Hyundai Sonata prior to this and it had some weird quirks. I haven't had to use it in the Energi because I don't take 200 anymore now that I work on the other side of Baltimore. I am driving to Philadelphia in two weeks so I will give it a try and let you know the results.

@jeff_h, I used to take the ICC to Baltimore and it would never work. Never really tried the 495 express lanes but I do wish Maryland had the transponder with the switch for driving in VA.

The way jeff_h has his set up never worked in my old car. I used to get those tickets by mail when my transponder was behind those dots. That's why mine is to the left of those dots. It's very unobtrusive in that location.

I am the boss although I tend to play around with mine, trying to find my optical performance. I mostly telecommute in my job but when I do commute I use EV Later till I get back home. I use EV around town. I'll admit, I'm a bit spoiled with the climate system in this car. I use it, even if it means less range. Of course, my justification is that I'm still spending less and fueling it less than my old vehicle. My last combined MPG reading was 49.5, which is way better than my 20 or so MPG in my old car, and that's in some freezing temperature with the heater on.

I must say that the people at Sheehy Ford in Gaithersburg, MD were very knowledgable. I was originally looking for a Hybrid (not knowing that the Energi existed) and when I told them I was looking at a Tesla, my sales rep said check this out. I did. And the thing was it came down to the Energi or the Prius. Obviously I picked the Energi due to the plug-in feature and it's stylish looks. Okay, Toyota felt cheap. Here is what I liked. They had one already charged and ready to go, even before they knew I was coming in. I took it for a spin and fell in love. I almost bought that one but decided it was a tad bit outside my price range. They worked very hard to find one in their inventory that would have the features I want with a price in my budget. They even gave me included maintenance and showed me how to use everything in the car. I must say, I loved dealing with them and I highly recommend them.

@Russael, turns out the problem was the computer. It needed to be reprogrammed. I don't know the technical details but the car is running well now and I'm very happy, thanks. I actually bought this car for fuel efficiency. The last car I had, I was getting barely 20 mpg. Now I'm averaging 54 mpg in combined gas and electric.

Okay, so the diagnosis was software. They reprogrammed the PCM per a TSB (gotta love acronyms). I must say, the people at this dealer are amazing. And, @jeff_h, I'll keep an eye out for another Ruby Energi. This vehicle really is amazing.

So I'm new to this forum but my 2014 that I got three weeks ago is already in the shop. There are three big failures, first in the charging system, second is the ABS hose, and third has to do with engine cooling (they don't know if it's the sensor or the engine or something else). In any case, it doesn't appear to be reliable to me. I love the car. But I don't need it to fail me. My check engine light came on a few days ago and I had it in the shop in under 24 hours. I hope this is all that goes wrong.

Hi all, I'm new to the group, obviously. So I'm the proud driver of a 3 week old Ruby Red Energi SE. I love the car. Sadly, the check engine light came on and it's at the dealer. I'm not to thrilled to have this happen, especially given that my last car was a piece of junk (it wasn't a Ford). Anyway, other than that, I love the vehicle.
