  1. Based on your original post, I was under the impression that you didn't want it to automatically read the messages - it doesn't automatically read them, it prompts you and you can choose to either listen to it or not. That being said, I checked in the manual... Under "Phone Settings", there is a "Message Notification" option that can be set on or off. You also could turn "do not disturb" on, which will send all calls to voicemail and not notify for new text messages.
  2. On my 2014, an alert pops up on the right screen in the instrument cluster when I have a new text with the options to "Listen", "Cancel", or "Call" (or something like that). If I'm in the car with people who I don't want to hear the text, I just choose "Cancel". Similar options also pop up on the main touch screen too.
  3. A CVT is "continuously variable", which is essentially infinite "speeds" (or "gears")...
  4. Given how infrequently the car requires maintenance, I can't imagine that it'd be worth it, unless the cost is half that of a normal gas-powered car.
  5. Another California owner checking in. My dealer did not pre-order the stickers, so I had to wait for my licence plate number before sending in the paperwork. For anyone curious, here's the timing of receiving the plates, stickers, etc. Purchased Energi: 12/23/13 Title Received (with licence plate no.): 1/16/14 HOV Paperwork and Check mailed to DMV: 1/17/14 License Plates/Registration Received:1/21/14 Check Cashed: 2/3/14 (showed up this day in my account, stamp on the back dated 1/31/14) HOV stickers Received: 2/5/14 (paperwork dated 1/31/14) After only two days with the stickers on my car... I think it's the best $8 I've ever spent.
  6. I always fill these out honestly (even if it means not getting a free oil change or free tank of gas for taking the survey back to the dealer and completing the survey "together"). That being said, the manufacturers typically are to blame. My recollection with a different major automaker was that anything other than "excellent" was considered a failure. Dealers have incentives, etc. tied to the survey results. Since many folks sell out for that free oil change or free tank of gas, the manufacturer does not get any honest feedback to actually identify issues and improve the dealership experience. If they weren't so heavily incentivized by all "excellent" rankings, everyone's experience would improve, and they'd be more likely to actually deserve the "excellent" ratings.
  7. You only have sensors that warn about your blindspot, tell you if you're too close to the car in front, or drifting out of your lane because they are options that your car was purchased with. The front PARKING sensor is part of the PARK ASSIST package (seems relatively logical), which is an option that your car doesn't have. Did you not notice the lack of these sensors during a test drive or walkaround of the vehicle? As someone with a more "base" Energi model without too many extra options, I'm personally glad I didn't have to pay for any sensors that I don't particularly want or need. That's a big reason why I ended up with an SE instead of the Titanium, because it seemed every Titanium dealers ordered had all of these extra sensors which was an unnecessary cost for someone that doesn't want them.
  8. Be careful... if you change your vehicle name, the color will default back to black. My experience was that I also could select the color when signing up with my 2014, but then I changed the car's name and it reverted to black. I just double checked and the color boxes are still hidden for the 2014s.
  9. The grab handle issue doesn't seem to be resolved with the 2014s. I had one cap (front passenger) pop off the other day when someone was holding the handle. It was a bit startling to hear the cap snap off and shoot across the car while I was driving down the road. I took the handle off and tried to figure out how to re-seat the spring, but had no luck. The handle is still obviously functional, but now I always notice that it doesn't spring back up to the normal position when released and it also won't quite stay fully up when manually pushed up, so it's awkwardly hanging an inch or so from being fully closed. One downside to the infrequent service required by this car... I'll either have to wait a while to get this fixed under warranty, or make a special trip to the dealer (who probably won't have it in stock, which means two special trips). Since others have had three of these fail, I'm hesitant to make a special trip for this one, only to have one of the other ones fail a short while later.
  10. I haven't done anything yet, but I find myself wondering how it would look if the lower grille bars were chromed to match the upper grille. And maybe the same with the continuation of the bars over by the fog lights.
  11. I use that all the time. That feature is useful for those who are on "time of use" billing with their electric companies (pay less for electricity during nights and weekends). MFM combines its database of electricity rates and the go times to determine the least expensive time to charge to ensure that the battery is fully charged 15 minutes prior to the go time. I plug my car in every evening when I get home, but it doesn't actually start charging until midnight when the rates are the cheapest. I think the default "value charge" may do the same, but the difference is if I set a go time of 5:30 AM, which is prior to the end of the cheap electric rates (midnight to 6 AM for me), it will start charging just before midnight at the slightly higher rates to make sure the battery is full when I need to leave, but still at the lowest rates possible. Just using value charge without the go time would result in a 90% full battery. (I'm just using the 120 VAC charger that came with the car, at least for the time being.) Another question for the original poster - what charger are you using? The 120 VAC that came with the car, or an upgraded model?
  12. Hopefully Ford will add the 2014 color options soon. Here's the workaround that I did, but I absolutely cannot guarantee that this will work or won't cause any other issues! If you don't know HTML code, I wouldn't recommend this approach. Log in to MFM with Firefox, with the Firebug extension enabled. Browse through the HTML code in the firebug window until you get to the "Vehicle Color" section. For every line that shows: <dl class="itemAction vehicleColor hidden js_addVehicleColorOption clearfix"> remove "hidden" so that it reads: <dl class="itemAction vehicleColor js_addVehicleColorOption clearfix"> After I selected the correct color and clicked "Save", it came up with an error message... but the correct color was saved. Note that it looks like only the 2013 colors are available (since Bordeaux Reserve is on the list and Dark Side / Sunset are not on the list).
  13. I'd add gallons of gas used for each trip. It shows up on the on-screen display, but not on MFM (full site or mobile).
  14. If you have a 2014, changing your car's name will default the color back to black... and although the color option was there when you set it up, the colors are "hidden" for 2014 models on the vehicle screen At least that was my experience. I did find a workaround to change the color back to the actual (sterling grey, in my case), but my car still shows up as "fuzzy" in the rankings.
  15. If your federal tax bill is under $4007, you may want to rethink the purchase of a $35k+ vehicle. Obviously there are some potential exceptions (retirees, etc.), but probably not a bad general rule of thumb.
  16. Random idea - I think the external temperature display can be turned on and off through the touch screen. Try turning it off and back on to see if that somehow resets something? Maybe cycle the car off with the temperature display off. Turn the car back on and turn the temperature display back on and see if it magically starts working.
  17. X-Plan works with most other rebates and incentives (I combined X-Plan, $750 coupon, and $500 Ford incentive without an issue). The only thing it doesn't usually jive with is any additional "dealer cash" or other dealership-level discounts. Where are you finding 100 shares of Ford stock for $174?? Another (less expensive) option is to join the Mustang Club of America - membership is something like $50/year and members qualify for the X-Plan discount. Also, since the MSRP reduction, the X-Plan is closer to "only" $2k off of the base MSRP on the two FFE models.
  18. Hmm, I tried this in my 2014 and don't appear to have a "Fuel Economy" unit! Just "Distance" and "Temperature". This is supported by the "Fuel Economy" unit being listed as an option in the 2013 Owner's Manual, but not in the 2014. Seems like a strange option to remove between model years. I haven't found a similar setting on any other screens. I'd really prefer to see MPGe instead of the default MPG.
  19. I'd recommend downloading a copy of the PDF manual (link available from Sync My Ride website, among others). That way, you can search through it electronically, which likely would be easier than trying to look something up in the index and flipping through the paper copy.
  20. I don't think that's true... I ended up buying my Energi on the 22nd (the day after I noticed this price drop), and before I even had to bring it up, the salesman mentioned that the window stickers were out of date, the price had dropped by $3-4k, and they needed to print new window stickers. I also qualified for the X-Plan, and the X-Plan pricing reflected the drop (the old X-Plan pricing was above the new MSRP, so it was pretty obvious). I also saw the invoice print-out with the X-Plan pricing at the bottom. Also if it wasn't retroactive, I would expect the Ford window sticker websites to be smart enough to only reflect the new lower MSRP on newly built models. To further support it, the MSRP on my purchase contract reflected the new lower X-Plan MSRP (it wasn't shown as a rebate, etc. like the $500 ford incentive and $750 coupon were). Regarding resale value, many dealers were already putting at least a couple grand in "dealer cash" on the vehicles, and Ford's December incentives (prior to this) was $4500 for a 2013 or $2500 for a 2014. When the MSRP changed, the incentives dropped to $500 for a 2014. I don't expect that this change impacted the actual out-the-door pricing that anyone paid for a 2014 model by more than $1-2k at most. Ford also may be concerned with the recent surveys that "predict" PHEVs will retain less of their value after 5 years. The surveys typically only look at MSRP, and don't reflect incentives, dealer cash, or even government/tax rebates. By reducing the MSRP (with fewer incentives/cash offers), the retained value after 5 years will end up being a higher percentage, which could make a difference to comparison shoppers.
  21. For reference, a small 3 oz tube of touch-up paint from the Ford dealer carries a MSRP of $10 (at least for certain colors - the premium ones may cost slightly more). It has a brush, but also is a paint pen. This is pretty comparable to (if not better than) trying to find a "close match" at an auto parts store. My local dealer didn't have my color in stock, but ordered it and it actually arrived later that afternoon from the warehouse.
  22. I had a similar issue on Android. I went to Settings -> Apps -> MyFord Mobile, and chose "clear data" to erase all the data the app was storing. I re-opened the app, signed back in, and the red cross through icons went away and everything started working correctly. If there's a similar clear data or clear cache option on iPhone, it may do the same trick. Otherwise, maybe uninstall and reinstall the app?
  23. I was thinking it may also be due to Chevy reducing the Volt MSRP by $5k, Comparison shopping a $38k+ Fusion Energi vs. a $35k Volt may not seem like a huge difference, but the gap is significantly widened when considering the Federal Tax rebate difference.
  24. I've been debating a Fusion Energi purchase for the last couple of weeks... today, when looking at window stickers online, I noticed that the base MSRP for both 2014 Energi models appears to have dropped by $4,000 (SE is now $34,700 and Titanium is $36,500 plus destination). It doesn't look like the price change has taken effect on all of Ford's websites or all of the dealer's websites, but every window sticker viewed online now shows it (including ones that showed the old MSRP a few days ago). Example 2014 SE window sticker Example 2014 Titanium window sticker I'm wondering whether this is an actual price change that takes effect immediately, or if someone jumped the gun on a change that's supposed to happen in January.
