My new 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge has a heat pump.

I have wanted an all-electric vehicle for some time but didn't feel I could afford it. On Saturday 6 February, my Daughter and I traded for a Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric SUV. I sold my 2013 Energi in November to Carvana for $12,062. That left me with a Volvo XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid. The Recharge is a brand new vehicle for Volvo and dealers in North Carolina got only one of these vehicles. Took a test drive and was hooked. Ended up trading the Volvo XC60 for the Volvo Recharge. Already my favorite vehicle of all time! MSRP: $59,630 with all options. 78kwh battery (402hp) with 200 mile range. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. This vehicle is very fast. Has one-pedal drive where you do not need to use the brakes to stop. Let up on the accelerator and the vehicle brakes using "super" regeneration. No ignition switch. The driver's side front seat has a sensor and if the key fob is present and someone is sitting in the driver's seat vehicle is ready to drive. Just put your foot on the brake and select the gear. The vehicle has a low center of gravity since the battery runs the length of the underside of the vehicle. Can select the percentage of the battery that will be charged and the amp rate of the charge. Suggested range is between 20% and 90%. One great feature is the navigation system is Google based along with Google Assistant . She understands every word I say and entering destinations takes only a few seconds.

A little additional info on my sale. Sold the 2013 Energi Titanium for $12,062. I knew it was worth more but the offer from Carvana was adequate since I had three cars and only one driver. It appears that Carvana sold the vehicle for $14,990. That is actually more than I thought it was worth but gives some indication of the value of a low-mileage (33K) FFE.

Put in your vin and mileage, answer a few questions and they make an offer. If you accept you take photos of your title and driver license. My deal was on Veteran's Day so bank deposit was delayed one day.

Wife passed away in January so no need for three vehicles. Had checked previously and all offers were below $10K. Checked Carvana on Tuesday morning and they offered $12,062. Accepted the offer and transaction was complete in 24 hours. Easiest vehicle transaction I have ever had.. Took the vehicle to their operations center in Greensboro and was in an Uber home in under 30 min. They paid for the Uber. ACH cleared the bank today. Had replaced the cruise control seitch myself only a week ago. Took longer than needed bacause of the learning curve. Couldn't get the dealer to replace it when it was under warranty and there was a known problem. Unimpressed with Ford dealerships. Will check-in here occasionally just to see what is happening. I still have a 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 plug-in that is great. By far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. Got approximately 135 mpg over the six years and 33,000 miles I owned the energi. I always use "L" for my 2013 Energi. Also have a plug-in Volvo XC/60 T8. Lots of pickup since the Volvo has a turbocharged 6 cylinder gas engine. Drive in "B" which is the same as "L" in the Energi. Get about 20 miles range on the Volvo and 15 on the Energi.

What vehicle do you have? New or used?

OMG! I have had this problem for 6+ years. The sychhronization worked Years ago I took my 2013 to the dealer under warranty and they said they couldn't duplicate the problem. Dealers are CLUELESS! I am on my third dealer due to their incompetence. There were recalls on the windows for this problem. But getting the dealer to replace the defective part or synchronize the windows was fruitless. Any chance you have a procedure to fix my cruise control? The "minus" and the "cancel" buttons do not work. I have to turn cruise control off or apply the brake if I want a lower setting. The "plus" works fine.

You need to ignore that number. It only gives you an estimate of your miles based on your previous driving. If you drive short trips with no AC or heater and never exceed 45mph, that number will steadily increase. Since the number is now 23 you must have recently driven faster and used the AC. Based on that driving, the computer is estimating that you will get 23 miles if you drive in a similar manner. My 2003 has a degraded battery but the number was up to 17 a few days ago. It had previously been only 14 or 15. The difference was due to short trips at low speed versus the highway trip that I took at 68 mph. Even if the number is 23 you can still get 30 miles IF you drive short distances at a slow speed. I think 23 was the max I ever saw for the mileage estimate number.

The 27K doesn't mean much since my 2013 only has 32K after 6+ years. And my HV battery has definitely deteriorated. In later years Ford removed the number from the battery screen because it confuses many people. Note that when the battery gets to zero charge another battery screen appears. It slides from right to left and may or may not show a charge. That battery screen has no number. You will get a little more EV range before the ICE starts if that battery screen shows a full charge. That charge won't last long. Be sure to leave the charging cable connected for an hour or two after the HV battery sends the signal that it is fully charged. That is when the small 12V battery is charged.

The range is based on previous driving. For example, if you drive at 70 mph with the AC on the battery charge will show a number based on that driving--not a very high number. If you drive at 45 mph a few times the battery range number will most likely increase. The battery charge number is based on previous driving and includes heating and cooling and heated seats. The number doesn't mean much since your actual range will depend on your actual driving. The range number is informational only and is an indication of what to expect if you drive like like you did on previous trips. The battery on my 2013 has deteriorated and the charge range is usually between 14-17. If I turn on either the AC or the heater, that number decreases immediately.

OBSERVATION: I read the above posts with great interest. I think what may be missing is what a hybrid vehicle (HV) does to get better mileage than a corresponding ICE vehicle. Hybrids have small batteries that must be recharged often. My Ford Fusion hybrid would go approximately 1/4 mile before the ICE kicked in to propel the vehicle and charge the battery so that the sequence could be repeated. The sequence repeated approximately every mile. I got approximately 42 mpg on the Fusion Hybrid which is much better than an ICE Fusion. The ICE Fusion engine is larger than the 4-cylinder Atkinson engine in the hybrid. The charging in the Fusion hybrid is controlled by the computer. Isn't what jsamp doing on the Energi similar to what Ford does via computer on the Fusion hybrid? jsamp is charging the HVB battery manually. Can we agree that a hybrid gets better mileage than a corresponding ICE vehicle? The explanation appears to be that charging the battery while driving may increase mileage. Regen, inertia of flywheels, etc. I think that jsamp may be correct but I doubt that it makes much difference in the actual mpg. It is not something that I would do.

I have been driving in L for several years on my 2013 Energi. I see no downside to driving in L. I also have a 2018 Volvo XC60 T8 (PHEV) and drive it in B (same as L in the Energi). The Volvo has a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that makes it very fast. My Energi battery has degraded and 15 miles EV is only possibile under ideal conditions. We get about 20 miles EV in PURE on the Volvo before the hybrid tales over. My overall mpg on the Energi is 140+ and have only used 220+ gallons of fuel in 6 years (31K+ miles). Mostly short trips near town. I actually like the simplicity of the Energi but the Volvo is fun to drive even if it is an SUV.

It should be under warranty. Take it to a dealer.

Great video. The small bolt on the left underside of the glove box is a PITA. Hard to find and difficult to get the small bolt back in because of the location. I used Scotch tape to hold the bolt to my 7mm socket and extension. That one bolt took longer than the rest of the procedure. Turns out that after 23,000+ miles I didn't need to change the filter.

Got the modem replaced today. No problems. Waited this long so they were familiar with the replacement procedure.

Got the "change engine oil soon" light a few days ago at 23,000+ miles. Had changed the oil previously at 14,000+. Changed at a quick change station. I was concerned since it had only been 9,000 miles since the previous change. But upon further reflection, the quick change station probably didn't reset the oil life monitor and neither did I. That makes sense that the change engine oil soon light didn't come on until 23,000+ miles since I get 145mpg.

What is the price on the 2013 and the 2014?

My 12 volt battery died over the weekend. Got it started and drove 50 miles on Mon. Dead again Tues morning. Definitely needed a new 12 volt battery. This was for a 2013 FFE. Other years may have different part numbers. Crescent Ford in High Point, NC did the work. I checked with Murphy and doing the installation myself seemed counterproductive. The price for the new battery was $119.95 (with $10 coupon) plus $33 labor for installation. Total $165.04. The old battery number was BXT-99R-390 (390 CCA) with a build date of 05/23/13 (the serial number for the battery). The new battery part number is BXT-99RT4-A (470 CCA) with a build date of 01/27/17. Battery (Motorcraft MAX) has free replacement for 36 months (stamped on the battery) and then prorated after that (36-100 months). Also needed the modem replaced. They had to acess the modem and order the proper part. Looking forward to accessing the vehicle after replacement.

Doesn't sound like he has a clue about how this vehicle works.

When you charge the HVB when do you disconnect the charging cable? If you disconnect the charging cord when the charging ring blanks out you are not allowing time to fully charge the 12V battery.
