Besides a BEV with 200+ mile range, Ford will introduce a total of 13 new electrified models within 3 years and expects 40% of it's models to be electrified within that timeframe. With its massive investment in EVs, is Ford risking being overly committed to electrified vehicles? Will Ford be able to make money in an area where others have lost significant sums?

Let's face it, Ford's projections of the plugin market and Ford's product response to those projections have been more realistic. Time has proven their projections correct. Nissan and GM grossly overestimated consumer demand for plugins and badly missed what the market was looking for and willing to pay for. The fact that Ford sold as many Fusion Energis as Nissan speaks volumes. Since Ford seems to be more grounded in the realities of the market and more in tune with what the public really wants when it comes to plugins. I have little doubt their $4.5 Billion investment in 13 new electrified vehicles before 2020 will be well matched to market demands.

Yes, my electricty rates are about the same. Like you, my situation means the utility comes out the winner if I change to their TOU plan. Gas needs to be over $4 a gallon to make electricity the cheaper option.

I like the improvements to the 2017 and will be replacing my 2013 Titanium with a Platinum at the end of my lease this Spring. I follow battery news pretty closely so I had no expectation of a break through in battery range, nor would it really interest me since running on electricity is so much more expensive than gasoline. The new electric motors on the 2017 are supposed to be more efficient but any increase in efficiency will still be offset by the widening cost of using electricity over gasoline. Lets face it, the EV market never materialized the way some manufacturers expected. I expect last years decline in EV market share will get even worse with gas price falling dramatically concurrent with increasing electricity rates and expensive public charging stations. I'm happy Ford chose to pass along the savings from lower battery costs to the consumer. The 2017 offers a huge value proposition, $8K less than my 2013 while offering increased content and capabilities. As for an Energi Escape, I don't know why Ford would bother since the C-Max is the same platform and format as the Escape. With plug-in sales declining, it would seem a waste for Ford to increase beyond the 3 plug-in models they already have. Nissan, Honda, Toyota are all stuck at one (or zero) models, Chevrolet at two, I can't envision the need for Ford to have 4 or more models in the current environment. More models chasing a declining market does not seem like a good business proposition. We'll see what happens with Ford's investment of $5Billion in new EVs arriving over the next few years. So far Ford seems to have demonstrated a more realistic approach to plug-in marketplace than companies like Nissan or GM have, so perhaps they will actually succeed with a positive ROI on that $5B investment, we'll see.

With out the ability to add your own particular electricity rate, this site is worthless. It also wrongly continues the misconception that using electricity is always cheaper than using gasoline. What would really be helpful is for public charging sites to post an eGallon price that they're charging.

The Platinum also includes a Power Tilt and Power Telescoping steering column with memory which isn't an option on the Titanium from what I can tell. Additionally the Platinum also has a higher grade of leather than the Titanium on the seats, console, doors, console armrest and steering wheel. The seats and doors have a contrasting piping. Instead of a plastic instrument panel, the Platinum wraps the instrument panel in the same premium leather as the rest of the car. That treatment includes stitching and continues down the console rails. A premium trunk mat and premium floor mats are included. http://imguol.com/c/entretenimento/76/2016/01/12/ford-fusion-platinum-2017-1452641149825_786x500.png

I agree, trunk space has never been an issue for me in the almost 3 years of ownership. I personally prefer the battery to be in the trunk, rather than intruding into the passenger compartment like the Volt.

Actually its painfully true and has been for a while now. The TOU rates are not economically feasible as the electric company trades lower rates at super-off-peak hours for higher rates than one would normally be paying during the rest of the times. Heads they win...tails the customer loses. The price of gas needs to be in the $4 range ($4.51 in my case) before a break even point is reached. Even higher when using public charging stations.

Maybe because in states like California, it costs more to drive on electricity than it does on unleaded.

Wait a second, am I reading this right?......the Energi Titanium also includes standard ACC (with new full braking and stop and go) and (Enhanced) Park Assist? Those were big ticket options on the 2013, $895 for Park Assist (unenhanced) and $995 for ACC (without full braking/stop and go). That makes the 2017 about $7870 cheaper than the 2013 with LED headlights, LED fogs, enhanced noise cancellation, more stereo speakers and 10 way power passenger seat thrown in for free.
-
Is great to see the price continue to decline. My 2013 Ti had a base price of $40,100. Now the 2017 Ti is only $34,120. The 2017 also comes with more standard features, LED headlights, 10 way power front seats.

Fusion charging when it's not supposed to
Energized replied to decker12's topic in Lounge - Fusion Energi
As the owner's manual states, if the SOC is below 10%, the vehicle will override Value Charge Profile until it reaches 10% when it will then re-engage the Value Charge Profile. Q: Why does my vehicle start charging immediately when I have a Value Charge Profile created for this location?A: The vehicle overrides the Value Charge Profile if the State of Charge of the traction battery is less than 10%. After the vehicle charges up to 10%, it will delay the remainder of the charge until the lower-cost times selected in the Value Charge Profile. The only problem I see here is not using a dedicated circuit, as spelled out in owner's manual. You must use a dedicated line, which means you cannot have other appliances connected to the same circuit. Note: If you do not have a dedicated circuit, contact a licensed professional. -
Not to worry, the J1772 was designed for all weather conditions and be be used in a driving El Niño rainstorm. The design is completely different than a typical 120V outlet. Take a flashlight and look inside the connector.

Please no. I do not want the inconvenience of going into the vehicle to unlock the charging door every time I want to charge and I certainly do t want the persistent problems that the Volt had with a locking charge door.

After dodging the dead 12vt battery issue for 2 years...
Energized replied to shaggy314's topic in Batteries & Charging
You had the wrench light? Did you or the dealer pull the code? -
One thing I'm certainly happy about is that after two years of owning the FFE, I haven't noticed any reduction in range. Its common to read about the battery issues on the Leaf, and the problems people have with degradation of range.

I did my entire commute today in EV Later and got 48.9 mpg. During lunch I used EV Now to travel a couple miles without starting the engine. Love the flexibility of the Energi and the ability to respond to flucuating energy prices.

The MFT screen wil always default to the home screen when first started. You can however customize the screen to the right of the speedo to display any of the four MFT categories; Phone, Nav, Entertainment, or Climate.

With electricty at greater than $.30/kWh, gasoline wins out by a big margin for me.
