Potential new Energi owner - have a couple of questions!

Your tax liability has to be more then the credit. Remember there is money being withheld from your paycheck. Just because you are getting a refund does not mean you will not be eligible. -
Potential new Energi owner - have a couple of questions!

Actually I do not think it can.... http://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/the-ins-and-outs-of-electric-vehicle-tax-credits.html From the link: "Up to" is the critical modifier. The federal incentive is usually referred to as a flat $7,500 credit, but it's only worth $7,500 to someone whose tax bill at the end of the year is $7,500 or more. If the buyer of a Volt, a Nissan Leaf or any of the other eligible vehicles owes, for example, only $5,000 in income tax for a particular year, that's all the tax credit will be. Uncle Sam's not writing a refund check for the other $2,500. And an unused portion of the credit can't be applied against the following year's taxes. -
Interesting... I have an iPhone, and using the USB works, but I also have good luck with the bluetooth connection. Try setting that up then playing the tunein app. I have used tunein before, so I know it works.

I have an iPhone 5 and it works just fine. Check out Scooter80s post right here on how to get it to work: http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/818-mft-text-to-speech-and-iphone/?p=3749

Not saying it will hold as much as the Benz, just saying the trunk is much larger then you think it is. So far I have been pleasantly surprised twice. Packed for a 6 day trip with the wife to Pittsburgh, and nearly everything fit in the trunk. And more recently went to BJs, unplanned, and thought I was going to have to load up the back seat but fit nearly everything in the trunk.

On your first trip to the grocery store you are going to be very surprised how much actually fits in that trunk.

Unfortunately that is about 3 hours away. -
That is discussed in this thread... http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/topic/1230-se-vs-titanium/?p=6845 Also check out the Buying Leasing and & Ordering section for several topics on deals and incentives to be had. It really is a good time to get a 2013. http://www.fordfusionenergiforum.com/forum/6-buying-leasing-ordering/ Welcome to the boards

I think whatever you want to do here, this car performs wonderfully compared to a car of equivalent size and comfort. I am extremely impressed with how little fuel I am burning for a car this size. I went over 2500 miles before my first fill up! I am pretty sure you will be using more energy running the AC then running with the windows down (due to increased drag), but you still are using considerably less the this car with a straight gas engine propulsion system. If you want to run the A/C, run it! I do. You still wont be going to the gas station that often.

I have always felt that if you are uncomfortable with the dealer, find another one. If they treat you poorly trying to make a sale, what do you think is going to happen if you have an issue? There are plenty of good dealerships out there.

National Plug In Day September 28 - 29, 2013
meyersnole replied to Taylorjd's topic in Lounge - Fusion Energi
Speaking of flop... there is not even one in North Carolina and there are plug ins all over the place. My neighbor has 2 Volts, there is a Leaf in the neighborhood too. This is also the first I have seen of this, although I think I heard something about plug in day on NPR the morning. -
I had a few things reset, especially how long until the screen goes to lock and how long before you need to put your password in... but the messaging seems to still function. One thing I think that has changed is streaming from the iPhone, when I am on the home panel it knows what I am streaming. If I go to the Entertainment screen it seems to not know anymore. I have also lost the ability to control the device from the screen -- but I can still control it from my steering wheel. I am one level back on MFT, have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow... I think I will let them deal with it along with a few other things. So far much less painful then I thought!

I am guessing you are not exceeding 60mph for long during that trip (that is what is killing my range). Today I drove 22 with 1 mile reported left today, was real nice out so no climate control.
-
Not really anything to report yet, other then I updated my iPhone on Sunday and today the phone seemed to sync to the car just fine. I have not tried out too much yet, but will report my experience as I gain it. (Just in case anyone is waiting to see if someone has successfully done it before taking the jump). Anyone else update their phone and have any experience to share?

Nice choice on color! Welcome to the boards. If you can not find what you are looking for just ask!

This makes much more sense to me. I live about 10.5 miles from work, and when I drop my wife off when carpooling its actually over 11. So I try make the whole trip on EV. If I can use the engine and capture some of that energy spent through regen then I could see myself north of 26 (like I mentioned above my record is 40, but that was in the mountains). I was just wondering how some of you were getting 26 on just the battery.
-
I answered for what I have been getting recently... not tracking it enough to know my true avg. I have been using the AC at least one of the directions which keeps me in the 20 range. Even if I don't use the AC, to get anything north of 24 I think I would need to be really lucky with the lights, and stay well below the speed limit on the section of road where the limit jumps to 55. If I don't run the AC and I go about 60 (keep with the flow of traffic) I hit about 22 miles all EV. I am real impressed with some of these 26 and higher ranges. Outside of my trip in the mountains (where I hit 40) I only see 24/25 on the estimates... just don't really get those miles (unless you are also counting the miles on EV after you start burning fuel... then my numbers go up).

What Level 2 Charger did you buy/install?
meyersnole replied to jeff_h's topic in Batteries & Charging
True, but if you do not care about the time the amount of power wasted is very small. I got a L2 charger not for the efficiency of the charge, but to allow me to make trips after coming home with out using fuel. Still probably not worth the cost of the charger, but worth it for me. -
I honestly think that is a good plan... after a half a year with the tires I like them much better then I thought I would. Really like that the regen braking does not put dust all over those wheels, as that would be a major pain to clean.

What Level 2 Charger did you buy/install?
meyersnole replied to jeff_h's topic in Batteries & Charging
Another thing to mention. L2 chargers are not a must for this car, the 120V chargers that come with the vehicle will cover most of the people who buy this car. It takes about 6.5 hours to charge the car with the supplied charger. Just plug it in when you get home. I bought mine for convenience and the once or twice a week that I come home and leave again in an hour to go out again. With the L2 charger you can get a full charge in about 2.5 hours. -
What Level 2 Charger did you buy/install?

I have the Bosch 30A with 18' cord. I like the unit, but I must say I am not a fan of the ordering process. You start out by filling out a survey, they contact you then a contractor comes out to give an estimate. I got a delivery date for the unit of about 2 weeks post the site survey. The unit did not show up that week, in fact it took about a month longer. What they did not tell me up front is that I ended up ordering before their first shipment, so it might be better now. Additionally they batch their orders to 100 units at a time before they ship them over from China. All in all it was not too bad, but was frustrated at the time because I was not told upfront about the process. If you want a charger right away this is not the route to go. If you want what appears to be a quality charger at a reasonable price it might be worth it. The other thing you will have to factor in is the warranty. If you have then just ship it to you for self install, then you will have a 1 year warranty. If you let them install it, I think the warranty is 3 years but the install will not be cheap. I located my unit about 12 feet from my panel and install/parts ran an additional $600. I am happy with the install because I would not want to mess with 240v, and they did a clean install. It also took the professional a couple hours to do it, and it would have taken me double the time at a minimum. There are a few of us who have these chargers, so maybe someone else can share their experience. Edit: The reason I got the 30A version is that I wanted the 18' cord and as I think that one day we might also do a second EV and the cord would reach both sides of the garage. For this car you are right, you will not get any faster charging out of the 30A then the 16A for the Fusion. -
Ford did a real solid job with the instrument cluster, and it can feel like a game trying to save fuel. Once you get your car registered on the My Ford Mobil site it can be even more of a game as you compete with those in your region for top score in braking, gas sipping, and ratio (as well as all around). Welcome to the boards, there is a ton of information here and if you can't find your question just ask.

Have you figured out what your daily drive would be? Do you have access to a charger during the day (at or near where you work)? What is your extreme day look like in mileage? Would the all electric cause you range anxiety? Or, do you have another car that you can use on those days? Yes, 22 miles is limited but you then go to hybrid mode where you will achieve somewhere in the 40s for MPG. The Focus is a small car, the Fusion a full sized car. If the size of the Focus does not concern you, then you should also take a look at the Volt, as it has twice the battery of the Fusion just the size of Focus. If 75-80% of your daily drives are 50 miles or less I think you will find that the Fusion energi offers quite a bit with little compromise. If you drive more then 50 miles a day then you might want to just look at the hybrid version of this car. While you still be getting about 66mpg (not an mpge calculation, just how much gas you were getting) at 50 miles, you would have decide how much extra you would want to spend for the extra gas mileage. If you pretend like the electricity is free (for me a charge costs ~$0.77, measured with a killowatt) then the break even is at about 290 miles on a single charge (where you would be at about 47mpg). I picked 50 miles... you would have to decide what is important to you. Some have said it is easier to get deals on the energi then the hybrid Fusion... this might skew the break even on mileage much higher. I do not think that battery chemistry is going to grow by any significant amount over the next 5 years, but there is some promising technology out there (Lithium Air Li-Air) but this take some time to commercialize even if they figured it out tomorrow. The good news is that there is significant research in this area and by the time you are ready for your next electric car (after buying an electric car I think there is no turning back) or replace the existing battery 8-12 years from now they will be cheaper and more efficient. Hope this helps... Welcome to the forum

What's the highest EV range you've seen on the dash?
meyersnole replied to Mr. Fusion's topic in Batteries & Charging
I was also able to achieve 43 on the predicted range after my trip through the mountains. The car is still working towards predicting my real range of about 21-23 again as I settle back into the weekly routine. This car is really impressive on long trips. So far I have seen 46mpg on a trip up 95, and 43mpg on a trip through the mountains. And this is with out trying, I am sure I could do better if challenged... but I am driving the car similarly to my last one on trips (braking is different, and I try to be careful on the acceleration, but still scooting down the road.) I also pulled into a rest stop in WV around the New River Gorge and saw a Ford engineering team testing what looked to be a next generation Mustang and Edge. They were completely covered in the black wrap, but still cool to see they were in the mountains testing the vehicles. I got a smile from one of the engineers when they noticed I was driving an energi.
