Thanks for the comments in this post. I have a 2015 Ford Fusion Energi. I had the issue where I had the warning to close the fuel door. Found out my issue was also caused by the magnet in the door itself. I got to get a screw driver to fix it permanently but the fact that could hear the magnet move around in the door and I was able to tap it back into place and everything began working again for a couple of fuel door opining cycles anyway gives me confidence in the real cause of the issue.
