About norcal

  1. I'm having the same problem with my Fusion. What I need to figure out is how serious this is. My local dealer (Novato Ford) will not service my Energi since I didn't buy it there--which is outrageous. The closest dealer in the next county can't take it until five days from now. So should I just drive it on gas until I can get an appointment, or is it a serious enough problem to drive a long distance to fix? The check engine light is on, too.
  2. EV Now--so I'm forcing it to run on battery only. But the engine turns on and it displays a message on the screen about the engine being turned on for "system performance." This is only for the defrost.
  3. I live in the Bay Area (Marin) as well, and have owned my Energi since late August. I noticed after Black Friday, when the "Chillpocalypse" started in CA, that my battery charge capacity dropped quite a bit--from about 27 miles of capacity to 20. So I'm guessing the cold snap has a lot to do with it. I usually just drive in full EV mode, and I've been surprised how often the car turns on the engine to support other functions. I usually drive without heat or A/C, but if I just turn on the fan to blow air over the window...it turns on the engine. Doesn't the battery pack have enough to support climate functions?
  4. Did you ever resolve this? My Energi stopped communicating with the outside world less than a month off the dealer's lot, and I've been trying to figure it out for several weeks. It's not a huge deal because the car drives fine, but it is annoying. With support from Ford by email and phone, they've advised me to: 1. Remove the #10 fuse for five minutes. 2. Remove the car from my profile online. 3. Install the latest software update. I did all of those, but nothing worked--except that I don't have a car on my profile anymore. I can't add a vehicle because the car isn't communicating with myFordmobile. This seems like a hardware failure...might be time to bring it to the dealer, but I thought I'd check here first. Thanks!
  5. Thanks very much for your reply and for this information. I do hope Ford is reading this forum regularly--it's been a gold mine for me compared to what I found in the owners manual or at the dealership. Thanks again.
  6. Hi everyone, I just bought my Ford Fusion Energi two days ago and then found this forum. I love the forum and have been reading as much as I can. This 12V battery issue concerns me, and although I appreciate the information you are posting on this forum (especially Murphy's "Preparing For Your Battery To Die" post), I'm not an engineer and I don't want to accidentally void my warranty by trying to fix it myself, so I thought I'd ask you all a couple general questions before it happens: 1. Does anyone have any idea what percentage of Energis have this problem happen? 2. Roughly how long before it occurs? It seems like most of you posting have been owners since late 2012 or very early 2013, so I'm thinking about six months? 3. Has Ford issued any sort or response or are they considering a recall to fix it? 4. It seems like many of you are very knowledgeable about electrical systems, probably more so than technicians I'd find at a local dealership. Is that why you are trying to fix it yourself instead of making it their problem? 5. Is there any preventative stuff you think would keep this from happening? Maybe not driving in EV mode all the time? Thanks for any advice you can provide--appreciate the expertise I'm finding here...
