  1. Ummmm, Ford is well known for reliability. Toyota is known for "marketing" reliability in order to mask their failures and unreliability.
  2. Sounds plausible since she was parked in parking deck.
  3. When completing all EV mile trips (most of them so far), my wife gets 999.9 mpg on the DIC screen in the car. However, the resulting MFM trip log shows something like 188.5 mpg, even though it also confirms that all miles were EV miles. Why the discrepancy? Also, I noticed many here post DIC screen shots showing MPGe, but I cannot find how to display anything other then MPG on the car display.
  4. My wife got a scare yesterday. She was at work and plugged-in, and realized she had never gotten a notification that the car was fully charged. She checked the MFM app on her iPhone from her office and got "Ruby is out and about" and a battery range of -1 miles". She freaked out, called me and said "I am rushing to the parking deck now.....has someone stolen my car?" I told her it was probably a "glitch" in the MFM communication due to thunderstorms in the area. Thankfully, when she got to the parking deck, her car was still there and plugged in - fully charged (with 27 mile range btw). Has anyone else seen something like this happen with MFM?
  5. Have had our 2014 FFE Titanium for one week now, and my wife is now seeing range of 27 miles on a full charge (showing on the display). Pretty amazed with this car so far!
  6. I have noticed that the electric a/c compressor and condenser fans when running by themselves (without the ICE on) sound very weird and "TRON-Y".
  7. Tire Rack shows size 235/50/17 tires for 2014 Energi, and 225/50/17 for 2013. However our Dec '13 build date '14 model has 225/50/17 tires. Did the size go up to 235 with later build dates? Also, I noticed the inner fender liner on the rear wheel wells of ours is "felt" not plastic like the front wheel wells (typical for all liner material in the wheel wells). Is everyone else's like this?
  8. Well, my wife completed her first commute to work at the hospital yesterday and below are the results of her return trip. Her one way commute is 21 miles and 7 of those miles are interstate. She was using a/c as it was 90+ degrees here, and basically made each trip virtually all electric. I will say that this car is going to EXCEED our expectations!
  9. So, I guess our electric mode MPGe here in the southeast (where rates average about $0.07 per kWh) would actually be significantly higher than the sticker's posted 100 MPGe.
  10. Well, an older man drove it down. Sweet guy, but didn't know anything about the car :-). Even though I mentioned to everyone I talked to to make sure they set it for EV later, they didn't. He bragged that for the whole 130 mile trip he only had to add about 2 gallons to top it off when he got here....and the HV battery was drained. Regardless, I didn't want to complain and we plugged it in and let it charge for a couple hours. My wife went to get ice cream with the kids after it got to 30% charge (about 8 miles away) leaving with a 7 mile range and averaging 416 mpg, with the a/c on (it was 90 degrees here today). Pretty impressive so far! Can't wait to get my LCS-25 EVSE and charge "Auburn fast" (some of you may get that reference). Love, love love this car so far! Wish I could afford a second one for me :-)
  11. Well, we finally made the plunge. Drove 2 hours from BIrmingham (still no electric certified dealers in the largest metro area in Alabama - hello FORD!) and dealt with a very friendly and very easy to do business with dealership in the NW corner of the state - Long Lewis Ford in the Shoals area (birthplace of the blues and famous for pop music recording studios beginning in the '60s to today). They were very kind and helpful and we got a great 36 month lease deal incorporating all available ford retail AND RCL lease rebates and only a $60 doc fee add-on. They are even going to deliver my wife's new car tomorrow (2 hours south to BIrmingham all detailed and with paperwork ready to finalize). I asked them to set to EV later for the drive, so we will still have full HV battery when they get here. Our choice: 2014 Ruby Red Energi Titanium with black interior, moonroof, navigation and driver assist package. I ordered a Clipper Creek LCS-25 L2 EVSE and will install in our garage as soon as it comes in. My wife has located 6 parking spaces with 110V outlets in a rarely used area of the employee parking deck at the hospital where she works. While not as ideal as having L2 EVSE at the hospital, she should be able to get fully re-charged in the 6 hours or so she is at work. We can't wait to get it tomorrow! Thanks to everyone here for posting and helping me learn so much about this awesome vehicle while researching our purchase.
  12. I wonder if the "configurable daytime running lamps" standard means "LED" DRLs?
  13. This must not be available anymore. I ordered a brochure a couple weeks ago, and it came today. However it just has a coupon for the $1,000 back for financing only in lieu of Ford special finance rates, which is already available on the website. I thought the $750 was something in ADDITION to what was already available on the websites and could also be applied to a lease. I have asked dealer we have settled on working with to check the VINCENT system, but haven't heard back from him yet.
  14. Just drove the Energi for the first time today and wife and I were very impressed. The seamless electric drive/ICE operation is very impressive. Took about a 12 mile loop test drive (3 miles on interstate) and returned with 169.7 mpg for the trip. This is very real world for the "mom taxiing" trips my wife will take with this car. I had a couple questions that I didn't see asked anywhere else. 1. Is the battery height lower/clearance greater between top of battery and rear deck on the 2014s than 2013s? I had looked at trunk of a 2013 back in the fall, and the '14 that we drove today seemed to have more clearance. 2.There is a little "door" into the HVB area right behind the rear passenger seat back, that was easy to get into. There appeared to be a fuse block and two fairly large gauge orange cables with exposed terminal bolts. There were electric warning labels, but certainly those aren't high voltage connections, are they? Seems too easily accessible to children playing around if it is high voltage. I'm assuming the cables may be for 12 volt battery connections or "data" cables? Ready to make a good deal and find our color/options combination. Wish us luck!
  15. I would hope the "lease" maintenance requirements would follow the above then.
  16. About to make our final decision and have narrowed down to a couple vehicles at an out of town dealer (Ford STILL has no electric certified dealers in Birmingham metro - are you listening Ford management?). Seriously considering leasing for several reasons: 1) Lower monthly payment - can get more options for our monthly payment range target 2) Everything covered - see "warranty" question below. 3) Concerned about technology and advancements, and ability to sell or trade an "owned" niche vehicle like this when newer tech is available - i.e. longer range battery, etc. Concerns/questions: 1) Should we OVER estimate our annual mileage? Does any "unused" mileage rollover to a new lease? 2) If we UNDER estimate our annual mileage, is the penalty really that bad? Dealer basically said you either pay it now in monthly payments, or pay it later. 3) Does Ford require leased vehicles to have the ridiculous "3,000 mile maintenance/oil changes", or will they only hold us to the oil life monitor requirements since on a plug-in, the engine hours are much less than a regular car/hybrid? Will we be forced to use their recommended maintenance schedule for a "regular" car for other items as well that dealer charges high amounts for - air filter changes, fuel system cleaning, etc? Can I change air filter myself? 4) With a 3 year / 45,000 mile lease, will the bumper to bumper warranty really be out at 36,000 miles? Or is bumper to bumper warranty for the duration of the lease? Thanks for any insight. I know I can get most questions answered by the dealer, but number 3 above is probably over the head of most dealer finance people.
  17. IMHO, Ford should have LED DRLs on ALL hybrid and Energi models (at least at Titanium trim level). LEDs will use negligible energy and give a distinctive look to the "electrified" models. Heck, Priii and Volts have LED DRLs. Also, should have HID or LED headlamps on Titanium trim for the price point.
  18. Wait a minute. So the $4007 doesn't apply if you would already be getting a refund on your return anyway? I have 5 dependents and a mortgage, so I always get a tax refund. I was thinking if we buy an Energi, then I could count on $4,007 more back from Uncle Sam.
  19. Thanks APM, I'm just about sold now on the practicality of the FFE for our needs. Just ready to pull the trigger and get a decent deal on a '13.
  20. Thanks for setting me straight on the ni-cad battery worries. I figured this car had smart enough computer management to take care of the battery regardless of usage, but thought I would ask. Now, just to get my wife to decide on a color, so I can try to make a deal on a remaining 2013 (she is bummed because she wanted light blue, like the old frosted glass color, but she doesn't like ice storm as she says it's too green).
  21. Ok, final question (I hope). When analyzing potential usage of a FFE (if we purchase instead of the FFH), my wife and I have determined that we (mainly she) will do ALOT of taking one child somewhere, dropping off then coming back to the house and plugging in to a L2 charger for 30 mins to an hour (sometimes longer), then off again to take another child somewhere else, pick up, make a grocery run, etc several times a day. Do many of you do alot of this? Will multiple "re-charges" during one day, but maybe not being plugged in long enough to fully charge many of those times cause issues, shorten battery life, etc? I know this is a big "hypothetical" for down the road, but I also know how we've always been told to fully deplete our mobile device batteries fully, then re-charge fully in order to lengthen life and also to not hamper realized capacity due to multiple "short charges", etc.
  22. So, the Fusion Hybrid 18" wheel options do not include low rolling resistance tires? I would have thought they would and if they are acceptable to Ford engineers on the FFH, I don't know why they wouldn't be acceptable on the FFE. I'm seriously thinking about seeing if a dealer will swap 18" like you have from a FFH SE in order to seal the deal, since the standard wheel on the FFH SE is the exact same wheel the FFE has but I don't want to adversely affect the mileage or anything else. How do you like yours so far? Personally I think the 17" standard FFE wheels look like crap.
  23. Here's what I don't understand. When doing a build and price on the website and entering either my zip code or the zip code in the area where I have found a vehicle, the incentive listed is $3750 off either a 2013 or 2014 Energi Titanium from dealer stock by 9/30 (program #50204 under RCL customer cash). However when viewing specific dealer stock, the RCL customer cash shown is only $2500 for 2013 models and $500 for 2014. Why is this? If I have printed off the summary with build and price will a dealer honor that on a 2014?
