How to determine if plug-in makes financial sense?
EnergiCCAATS replied to Andrew Stein's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
My wife's commute is 21 miles one way, and most of her trips around town are 30 miles or so round trip. We have had the FFE for almost 7 weeks, put over 3500 miles on it, AND she has been about 650 miles of highway driving in hybrid mode. She's only filled up the tank twice, so I'm guessing she's saved almost $350 in gas over a "conventional" car at 30 mpg average. Back out about $25 for charging over those 7 weeks, and she has saved over $300 in "energy cost" so far vs. if we had purchased a traditional car (i.e. Accord or regular Fusion). -
There are still some 2013s on lots that I bet you could get a deal close to $32K or so BEFORE the tax refund. Then after the $4007 and your $23K left over, you would only have to finance or come with about 4K more. Seems like you could replace it with money to spare, if you can find a 2013 FFET on a lot. The 2014 Ruby Red FFET we leased in May, had $35,500 on the sale price on the window, before the tax refund.

So sorry to hear about this, but glad you are ok. So you don't think your insurance will replace the car at a total loss? Will they not buy you another Energi?

Fusion Energi EV Battery Range
EnergiCCAATS replied to law@magproducts.com's topic in Lounge - Fusion Energi
Our 2014 is consistently returning 30+ mile range on dashboard and MFM, and usually my wife adds another 8-10 miles in regen during her commute and gets home with 12-15 miles EV range left (her commute is 21-25 miles depending on which direction she goes/stops she may have to make). This is in central Alabama with consistent 90+ temps. -
Correct, thanks for pointing out my error. So, while "waiting to charge", the car's computer allows it to use between 70 and 120 watts. I guess mine is drawing 120 because of the low speed fan and the onboard charge module. Does seem silly since "value charging" is supposed to save energy/money. Anybody from Ford service care to address this?
-
Thanks for all the info. I just checked and actually, the HVB fan IS running at a very low speed (had to get down under the rear bumper to hear it). I checked the line feed with my clamp on ampmeter, and it is drawing about .5 amps, or 120 watts, when MFM says the car is "waiting to charge". Not sure why the car doesn't "lock-out" the call to the EVSE for a charge while it is actually "waiting to charge".
-
Set up value charge profile at home, and all indications are it works. However, even though the blue ring is off and the fans are not running, the "charging" light on my Clipper Creek LCS-25 charger is still lit up. Anybody else notice this? How can it not be charging, and yet the EVSE shows charging?

Highest miles showing after full recharge
EnergiCCAATS replied to JesseDiaz's topic in Batteries & Charging
The reason your EV miles for trip are higher than your HV battery estimated miles at full charge, is because you gained additional REGEN miles thru coasting downhill, brake REGEN etc. -
You are both still getting well higher than Ford's now DERATED 38 MPG for hybrid mode. I still don't understand why they derated the Energi. 43 mpg was dead on for even the most aggressive drivers, and conservative for most of us now acclimated to driving a hybrid and being energi conscious.
-
You must not get out very often.....here is just a list from the top of my head of cars I see out on the road on a regular basis with LED DRLs: GM: Chevy Volt, Chevy Impala, Chevy Tahoe, GMC Acadia, GMC Yukon, GMC Sierra, Buick Enclave, Buick Regal, Buick LaCrosse, Caddy ATS, Caddy XTS, Caddy CTS Ford: Escape Honda: Accord Toyota: Camry Lexus: Most new models Chrysler: 300, 200, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Cherokee

Pay no attention the the derate of 38mpg.....that is ridiculous. Ford is just responding to stupid lawyers, that is all. You will get BETTER overall mpg with the Energi over the Hybrid and better mpg when in hybrid only mode, than in the hybrid, due to the Energi's larger battery capability to store more REGEN capacity than in the Hybrid. Apparently, neither Ford nor the EPA has a clue how to accurately rate the PHEVs. Unless you drive like Ricky Bobby or Cole Trickle in your Energi, you will get way better than the new posted EPA mpg numbers.

Picking up my Ford Fusion Energi Titanium tomorrow
EnergiCCAATS replied to WouterP's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Read all our posts on other threads about this subject, Ford should NOT have lowered the EPA rating for the FFE! Most of us here already EXCEED the old ratings. All Ford has done is cost themselves alot of money (both in refund checks and lost future sales) and killed their credibility in the green car market with this stupid decision. Drive your FFE and enjoy it and brag to everyone you meet. -
Yep, I'm so glad Ford derated the battery only miles from 21 to 19. 21 obviously isn't achievable.

Free Money ....EPA mileage restatement
EnergiCCAATS replied to Energized's topic in Lounge - Fusion Energi
My wife completed a trip to Atlanta and back over the weekend with 3 adults in car, trunk full of luggage and a/c on and averaged 53 MPG in charge sustaining mode on the way home (battery was already depleted when she left to head back). She drove TO Atlanta using "ECO Cruise" and only got 45 mpg, but was able to "foot pedal it" on the way home and achieved the 53 mpg. I understand the derate on the hybrids, which put them close to the ORIGINAL Energi ratings, but to make the Energi now even LOWER than the re-rated hybrids makes no sense. -

Yeah, I'll take the money. But from a marketing standpoint, this will kill Ford's Energi line in the eyes of the consumer. DUMB move by Ford to lower the Energi ratings so much lower than the Hybrid. We are finding the Ford/EPA ratings were already lower than real world results in the "charge sustaining mode" and electric only range and to lower them to 38 mpg and 19 miles (and MPGe to 88) is ridiculously low and much lower than real world results. -
Go times, and remote start are features within the MyFordMobile app or on the www.myfordmobile.com website that manages your cars charge times, etc.

This is ridiculous. New FFE ratings of 38 combined for hybrid mode and only 19 estimated electric miles? We've been getting right at 43-45 MPG in hybrid mode and almost 30 and sometimes 30+ electric only miles after only 3 weeks of ownership. It seems like the old ratings were already very conservative for the Energi. I understand the Hybrid re-ratings as 47 mpg combined for the FFH were a little high.

I would suggest programming a "go time" or using remote start to pre-condition the car with A/C while you are still charging and before leaving work. This should make the battery very happy :-) and hopefully minimize your ICE coming on so readily. If sitting in 100+ degree sun, the interior of a car can reach temps over 130-140 degrees!

Yet Another Clipper Creek Installation

Wound up fully charging from empty in 2 hours, 4 mins. Impressive! -
Yet Another Clipper Creek Installation
EnergiCCAATS replied to FormerFF's topic in Batteries & Charging
LCS-25 installed today. Most of the time involved running about 40 feet of 10/2 Romex across garage and then above ceiling in finished basement (thankfully a lay-in ceiling). Looking forward to quicker charging times. Plugged in tonight with empty HVB and projected charge time by MFM is 2 hours 40 mins.
