Hello Doug, Welcome to the Forum! I owned my Energi from 2013 and just traded it in for a 2019 Prius Limited. The Prius is not a plugin, is smaller than the Fusion and the ride is not as quiet or as comfortable as the Energi was but it is loaded with options similar to the Energi and fits our needs for the way we are living today; plus the fuel mileage is great, for a hybrid. Anyway, the dealer didn't want my 240V Ford brand charger, made by Leviton, so I still have it and would like to sell it. Price is $300; let me know if you are interested. Wayne Green Valley, AZ

12 Volt battery just died on my 2017 Energi Platinum.

Murphy, where did you buy your AGM battery. Will Ford install the AGM battery if I take the car to the Dealer or do I need replace it myself? What is the AGM battery number? -

I am pretty sure I found the negative post location thru another thread. -
On Vacation 30 days and Car is Completely Dark
pluggedin replied to pluggedin's topic in Batteries & Charging
Thanks Murphy. I have a battery charger, can charge the 12V battery with that? I can see the positive terminal under the hood but can't see or remember where the negative terminal is. Can you point me to it? -
Left the car plugged in to the charger while on vacation for 30 days. Unplugged the car, got in and the dash was lit but when I hit the start button the car went dark and I can't even open the trunk. The light ring is not lit. Hooked up the charger to the 12V and it shows charged. This happened once before in 2013 but it came back to life. Now I can't remember why it came back to life. Anyone else experience this issue?

Welcome, Brian. I second the tinting of the windows idea. As dark as possible and make certain the film blocks the heat. Ask Murphy (Moderator) for help and I think he will be able to lead you in the right direction for the best bang for your buck. I live in Tucson and you have at least one other Forum Member that lives in Phoenix. I have a 2013 model and still get excited about driving the car. It's not nearly as hot here as in Phoenix but we still reach between 100 and 110 degrees, mid summer. It's just way cooler at night here than where you are, because we are at a higher elevation. Enjoy your ride, brother, your pride of ownership will, hopefully, exceed your need for speed.

No, not where you are showing them. I had some chips on the little black strip in the rear bumper. To touch them up I would have had to drive 70 miles, round trip, and leave the car with a dealer in Tucson, because my dealer does not have a body shop. So I asked for some gloss black touch up paint and was told it was not available. Seriously???? No matter though I had it fixed when I was clipped in the rear end about six months ago.

Car not charging from 120v outlet in middle of day
pluggedin replied to howardbc's topic in Batteries & Charging
I have experienced that same issue several times over the past year. It just seems the car gets out of sync and doesn't "see" that you have plugged the car in so I have learned to ALWAYS wait until I see the charge ring flash, I hear the charger click and see the charging indicator light on the charger flashing before I walk away from the car. What has worked for me when the car does not accept a charge right away is to get in the car and hit the start button, with the charger still plugged into the car, and the car should immediately accept the charge. Turn the car off once it has accepted the charge and everything should return to normal after that. I have missed those signs a couple of times and have had to leave on an empty battery because of it. -
Welcome, Todd. You don't indicate where you live so let me tell you my experience here in AZ. I have solar on my house too and before I bought my Energi I was overproducing energy by about 3,000 kwh's a year and was banking energy every month. Last year I used all of the energy I produced and had to purchase a little bit more for about two to three months, if memory serves. And I only drove about 11,000 miles last year. So there is no free lunch. The way I see it is my utility company only pays me about 2.5 cents per kwh that I put back into the grid, so I would much rather use the power I over produce than let the utility company screw me. It's much less expensive than buying gasoline. I also have a 220 charger and most days I use it two to three times a day. For me it's very convenient. Happy motoring.

Scott, I have a 78 mile round trip I make that is 90% highway @70-75 MPH, on one charge only, and I get between 50-55 mpg. So I would say you can get close to that if you charge on both ends. Save your battery miles for when you get off the highway. In general, the hybrid battery will get you through the stop and go traffic. I am going to guess you will get 39 or 40 mpg with the hybrid on that commute.

I had the "check engine" light come on a few months ago so I made an appointment to have my dealer check it out. By the time I got to the dealer though the light went out and I was told, by a Service Writer, that the car does not record (or store) a fault code so I would have to wait for the light to come on again and bring the car back. That was a bit irritating. The light has never come on again.

Well, I'm a bit partial to the color you chose (we get more complements on the beauty of the color then we do questions about its performance), but you will love learning how to PLAY with the car to maximize your Energi results. Well to the forum!

Thanks for the tip. I see this message all of the time, especially if I am parked and want to listen to the radio (waiting for the little woman to shop); I have to turn the car on to do so and that irritates me. I'll give your tip a try.

I second the thought of a "How to" thread. The flaps look as good painted as I had envisioned them to be. Do you think the paint will crack or chip over time, since they are hard rubber? Regardless, nice job!! :clapping:
-
I hope the painted mudflaps turn out great looking for you! I wanted to do that too but three body shops I talked to turned their noses up to the idea and didn't recommend it. They look good just the same. However, I would love to see some pix once you get them installed.
-
I think I can help you here, Gerry. Several of us on this forum have installed mudflaps, both front and rear, and I am one of them. They look great on the car and are functional as well, in that they have kept road tar and debris off of my rocker panels, etc. To date, my best mpg on a tank of gas has been 180.4 mpg and my lifetime average hovers around 100 mpg, so your salesman doesn't know what he's talking about (no surprise)! I also had a 3M clear bra installed on the hood, front bumper, fenders and mirrors. Driving the Interstates around Tucson is like following a gravel truck and I don't have one rock chip on the front of my car, to date, but have had to replace my front windshield once already. I have found no need for the 3M on the rocker panels, because of the mudflaps, but it might be a good feature to have just the same. Keep the car waxed and you will have no troubles in keeping the car clean and looking new. Two weeks ago I was driving a rural two lane road and hit a raccoon with my lower left front bumper, right at the driving light panel. I had no paint damage from the little varmint, because of the 3M bra, and it cost me $40 to have a body shop realign the various parts in that area of the bumper. As for the 240v charger, it's worth the expense if you take a lot of short trips during the week or weekend. We only have the one car and I find my wife keeps the wheels turning on the car regularly but the trips are normally 25 miles, or less. So I have charged the car as many as 3-4 times in one day; which is not possible with the 120v charger. Enjoy your new ride!!

Ordering without navigation. Mistake?
pluggedin replied to comike's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Yeah, Mike, I waffled on the NAV too but the smash-n-grab thing convinced me to pony up for the NAV and I haven't looked back since. I still use my TomTom for rental cars, like others have mentioned here. And I was never a fan of having to remount the TomTom every time I needed to use it anyway. -
Sad to say, but ain't it so. The Energi has been pretty much trouble free so the dealer learning curve is going to be a looooooong one! I thought you lived in Nashville, vincegil. :hysterical: Welcome to the Forum!

Hey eviltuna, mine was one of the first orders placed into the system for a 2013 Fusion Energi and it took like five months for delivery. The waiting time was almost as painful as giving birth, according to my wife. Yours should not take that long, hopefully. You can see my stats below. I live in a semi rural area and have 4-5 mile stretches without stop signs or stop lights so I use the adaptive cruise control constantly, even at 35 and 55 mph. If there is a car in front of me I never have to hit the brakes, have to slow down or reset the cruise control. For me it's one of the best features on the car. You are going to LOVE your ruby red car; it is an outstanding color. But then, I am prejudiced.

Kim, I am having trouble with MFM. Last week I forgot to plug my car in twice so I went to MFM and checked the box 'plug in reminder', under Notification Settings in hopes that MFM would notify me when I parked the car in the garage and forgot to plug the car in to charge the battery. What I get instead is a notification that my car is set to charge at like 2 AM (no go times set) but the car is unplugged, even though it is plugged in. The result of the notification is the car just sits there waiting for a charge that never starts. I plugged the car in yesterday afternoon and the car was still waiting for the charging process to start at 8 AM this morning. That scenario has played out twice since I checked the plug in reminder box, which is now unchecked. My Ford Mobile has been virtually useless to me, except for me to see if the car is charging and what percent the battery is charged to. Practically nothing else matches the actual stats on the car so my stat comparisons to other cars in my region are way off. For example, my odometer reading, under Vehicle Info, reads 7,535 miles; which is correct. However, my miles driven, under My Driving, shows 5,582 miles. Even though I just completed three month and 1678 miles (180.4 mpg) on one tank of gas, MFM rates me at 118th in my region. That makes no sense except for the fact that my car and MFM quit communicating a month or so after I bought the car, so that might explain the odometer reading and the miles driven difference. Go Times, I gave up on those six months ago. At this point, I would just like for MFM to notify me when I forget to plug the car in, if that is what it is supposed to do when I check that little box in Notification Settings. Any help you can give me in that respect will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Ashley. Were there any performance or technical advances made to the 2014 Energi, over the 2013?
-
Welcome to the swim, Nemo (pun intended)! You are going to LOVE your new car. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

Yes, I have had this happen multiple times....usually at the most inopportune times. I have learned to make sure the light ring circulates when I plug the charger into the car and then make sure the charging light (yellow on my 240v charger) also begins to blink. If one of the two, or both, don't occur I get into the car, step on the brake and push the start button. The charging process has then started every time I have done that. I think the one thing to really watch for is to make sure the light ring circulates, which means the car has accepted your charger. I've learned to not just assume the car is charging or to just walk away after plugging the charger into the vehicle without watching what is occurring. You can always check My Ford Mobile too but I don't do that every time I plug in.

Welcome to the Forum Kalistis. If your commute is less than 12 miles, round trip, there is no way you shouldn't be able to make that trip on all electric, even with the A/C on Max, unless the miles you are driving are all freeway miles at 70 mph+. The car defaults to EV Now every time you start the car. So, if you are driving on the freeway, use the one button, of three, on the right side of the console (I think this is a terrible location for this function) that is marked EV (closest to the dash) and push it. You will see a window come up in the the left hand dash cluster that gives you the options of Auto, EV Now and EV Later. I use EV Later when I enter the freeway, which puts the car into hybrid mode, and then I put the car back into EV Now (battery only mode) when I am back on the city streets. Others in the Forum use Auto but my experience has been such that the Auto mode will use all of the EV battery up first while on the freeway and leave me with no option for using the EV battery once I am on city streets again so I quit using it. But maybe I just don't understand the mode so I will leave it to those that do use it and understand it to explain its use to you.
