  1. Are you referring to the breakers in my main panel Murphy?
  2. Doug, the only reason I point out the daisy-chaining aspect is from a resistance stand-point. Obviously resistance seems to be a common theme in everyones suggestions and utilizing the last receptacle in the line would increase ones chances of having a higher resistance, no? Also, every wire was secure near as I could tell. Murphy to address your concern, at no time does the charger ever hang from the receptacle. At home the receptacle has a small deepfreeze directly underneath about 3-4" and the charger rests on top of it while in operation. At work the receptacle is near the ground and I rest the charger against the building while in operation.
  3. Hello everyone... Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. Been a busy week for me. So last night I went ahead and removed the receptacle and inspected the wiring. I have uploaded pics into the dropbox folder for everyone to see. The wire is 12/2 with a ground. Most of your suspicions were correct, as the receptacles were wired using the push-in connectors and not the screws. To make matters worse (I suspect), the two receptacles were wired in series and the one I was using was on the end of the circuit. All of the wiring appears to be intact and not brittle, but in the pictures it appears that the insulation on the end of the neutral is discolored. When looking at it in person that did not appear to be the case, so I'm wondering if that was just the flash. I plugged in my circuit analyzer to make sure everything was wired correctly and tested the continuity to make sure there was no short in the circuit. So there you have it. Now, the last picture in the folder is of an outlet at my work that I inspected also. Unfortunately, my phone died so I couldn't take anymore but I performed the same type of inspection. This time though the screw lugs were utilized on the receptacle as push-in connectors were not present. You can see though that the same type of heat was generated..... While I'm assuming most of you will say "Ah hah! It was the receptacle!" and are probably much smarter people than I am; I just can't shake the fact that the greater, more catastrophic damage is to the charger. In my line of work (15 year Fireman and certified Fire Investigator), you always work towards the area of most heat damage and that usually ends up being your origin/cause. In this case that's the input plug on the charger. By all means poke holes in my thoughts as I'm wanting this to be a learning situation for anyone that comes across the thread! Thanks guys/gals for all of your input and thoughts! BTW, BIG round of applause for Ford stepping up and joining the thread :clapping: !! Meagan I will PM you now!
  4. Thanks to everyone for their replies and suggestions. Hats off to Fat Fusion too. That suggestion is so beautifully simply I'm almost embarassed I couldn't think of it myself (I'm having flashbacks of my father yelling at me for wrapping an extension chord around my arm!!). In regards to problem #2, I'm going to inspect the receptacle tonight when I get home. Will add pictures to the same DB folder as I go. Interestingly, I looked at a few receptacles at my work and places I frequent and noticed a few of them are darkened, although not nearly as bad as the one at my house.
  5. You are correct Doug, the breaker should have tripped. Fortunately, (I forgot to mention) the GFI that the circuit is on did trip. That's how I first discovered something had happened. My garage walls are completely open so I've visually inspected the entire run of wire and found no issues. I am going to replace the receptacle though just to be safe. The reason I ask about replacing under warranty is that on my last trip to the dealership to replace an ECM, I asked the service manager to check into it. Granted, this was prior to the major issue I've had now, but his response was that Ford would not replace the item due to "Normal wear and tear". Typical boiler-plate response.......
  6. Hello everyone, Curious to know if anyone is having issues with their OEM L1 charging cable. Specifically I'm having 2 major problems. The first is the output cable becoming severely twisted and now the sheathing is cracking up and down the cable. This has been an ongoing problem since practically day 1. I've tried everything I can think of including untwisting the cable over and over just to find it re-twisted. The second is much more serious. I've noticed that past few weeks that the outlet is starting to get blackened and a prong is now starting to come out of the plug housing. Based on #2 above, it is safe to say I will no longer be using the cable as there is obviously some major short or malfunction with the charger. Has anyone experienced either of these issues?? Also, has anyone had any luck getting for to replace a unit under warranty?? Here is a link to pictures if anyone cares to look at photos of the unit and damage https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dlugo5o743g7bh0/AABDoAOFdxHaYF0yXUaSYkOla?dl=0
  7. Hey Colette how did that pre-paid lease work? I just recently read about that and am VERY interested. I actually tried to pre-pay my current FFE lease in 2013 and was told I couldn't. Funny that they now offer it....lol. I believe Toyota has a comparable program to this which had me looking at the Rav4 EV. To the original poster, I second Tseibel76. He hit the nail right on the head. One thing I've found from over estimating my mileage (purchased 19.5k/using 15k) is that I have actually stayed ahead of depreciation and if need be, could probably sell the car outright at a profit. In theory at lease-end, it would be more beneficial for me to sell it outright then to turn it in. Ford does say that if it is worth more than my residual value they will give me the difference. I guess they figured me for a fool in thinking I would actually believe them.....lol. Edited to clarify that it when I say "Ford" I mean the dealership....lol
  8. Hello everyone... Just curious if anyone has experimented with replacing the 3.3 on-board charger with a 6.6kw charger? Because of my driving style it would help me greatly to be able to recharger my HVB faster. Just curious if any MOD freaks out there have looked into it.....
  9. Hello all.... I was doing some research tonight on open source Level 2 charging options and I came across a project on Kickstarter.com. Thought everyone might be interested in it...... Here is a link to the kickstarter page.... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/emw/emw-juicebox-an-open-source-level-2-ev-charging-st?ref=card They have already reached their goal of 40k dollars and production has begun. You can purchase a DIY kit for the tech savvy individual for only $99 plus the cost of the input/output cables! A fully functioning and assembled unit requires a pledge of $329 with the option to pledge more for additional units. Also, you will have the ability to purchase the input and output cables prior to shipping for a maximum of $200 for the set, which will be installed; bringing your total out of pocket to around $529 max. Let's support these guys and drive down the ridiculous cost of the commercially available chargers! This picture is from their project page and is a picture of a fully functioning prototype.
  10. Sorry I disappeared for a bit.... I've been diligently shopping around a handful of dealerships here locally. Here is what I have so far..... Lease Plan I am looking at is 24 month / 19,900 miles per year.... Fusion 1 = Fully loaded with every tech. option and Whit Plat Ext. Sticker is $45,870. After the $3750 Tax Credit and the $750 coupon, I have them down to $38,847. I negotiated this deal without the X-Plan just to see how I would land. That was where I got them right out of the gate by telling them to put their best foot forward. Money factor is 3.5 / Residual Value 60% / $5000 down / Payment $556.10 with $54 per payment going towards taxes, etc. Fusion 2 = Same exact car as above. Went in the door with the X-Plan pin, so they came back with a sticker of $45,945 and the plan discount of $2424, leaving a net of $43,521. Now this dealership did not subtract out the tax credit or coupon (I love it when they think I'm stupid!!!). Haven't been able to talk them out of a payment breakdown yet, but I am assuming the money factor is the same based on my calcs / Residual Value 59% / $7500 down payment / Payment $543 that includes WearCare. Again, I am very interested in getting the payment breakdown here.... Fusion 3, 4.... = Have a couple other dealerships that are combing their inventory or looking for dealer-trades...... One thing that is absolutely killing me is the money factor FMC is charging for these things.... .0035!!!! I mean that is damn near 8.5%!! Seems on a couple of different forums that this is the norm across the board! I'm really struggling with that internally, and as bad as I want this car it is REALLY hard to ignore the fact that Toyota quoted me a money factor of .0012 for their close to fully loaded Prius. That is a difference of almost $100 in a payment. I'm pretty happy with the residual value of 59-60% though, but I'm thinking this is the only avenue I might have to decrease my payment. In theory, as a current year vehicle gets towards the end of it's "Model Year", shouldn't the residual get a little better anyway due to less miles being on it at lease end? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! BTW CombsAuthor.... I haven't been to hip on that color until I looked at your album last night! Your pictures do it justice! I'm left wondering how that color would go with the hazelnut interior Lincoln offers on the MKZ Hybrid???
  11. Thanks Tex! Haven't yet researched the differences. Can you maybe expand on them?
  12. Hello Folks.... In the process of ordering my new 2013 Fusion Energi with the Drivers Assist, Nav, Adaptive CC, and All-Weather floor mats installed. MSRP w/ Dest Charge is $43,900. With the X-Plan discount the net is $41,476. I have been approved for the 24 month/19,500 mile lease with $7500 down. I am curious to know what others have experienced with their purchase. The dealer hasn't provided me yet with a complete break-down of my payment, but what information they have given me there are a couple of things that stood out. First and foremost, my total payment is $543. That is substantially higher than the calculator on the website, but I didn't realize (having never leased a car before) that all taxes and fees are rolled into the lease. Missouri has sales and personal property taxes so that adds up pretty quickly. The residual value was also higher than I expected at 59%! I was prepared for that number to be lower so I'd be curious to know what others are seeing? The other thing is that the dealership doesn't appear to have factored in the $3750 tax credit into the equation as the depreciation charge is listed as being $17,005.16. Simple math would suggest that something is awry. On the website they subtract that credit out so I'm curious what others on here had found? Now my credit is somewhat challenged, so I am SUPER curious to see what the lease fee/month is coming out to be; but the dealership isn't in too big of a hurry to provide me with a payment breakdown. All's I have is the finance guys hand-written notes....lol. I did find some calculators online and it appears that my my money factor in terms of a tradition interest rate is 6%. The dealership is also including the Ford "Wear Care" warranty in the payment. Anyone have any experience with that at turn in? Also cost? Anyone have any experience with ordering from the factory. Specifically what are some of the turn-around times others are experiencing from order date to delivery? Thanks in advance for everyones opinion as it is greatly appreciated! Have a great day....
