From the manual...."For best overall vehicle and engine performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended. The performance gained by using premium fuel is most noticeable in hot weather...." So, apparently, you can get away with using 87 octane rating, but there are advantages to moving up to 91 or higher octane rating. I wonder if there's a knock sensor or something similar that, for example, keeps a more advanced ignition timing setting for better performance that would create knock using 87, but doesn't using 91. Is that what it boils down to?

Interesting. I hear the whine with windows up. I also hear it from both the electrical and ICE. So, I'm thinking it's the tranny versus the electrical motor.

The EV Now setting seems redundant. Whenever you put the setting to Auto it automatically uses the EV first until it's discharged anyway. What am I missing, here?

When using the Sync3 system, I can get an overview of the power distribution (side view profile of car showing the power going and coming) by going to the apps. However, if I plug in my iPhone and go into CarPlay, that option disappears. Does anyone know how to display the power distribution screen while you're in CarPlay? Thanks in advance. John

You mentioned in your first post that you bought splash guards, but not from the dealer. So, you bought the factory splash guards, but not from the dealer? Is that why the hardware wasn't included? Or, were they aftermarket splash guards? If so, why didn't you get the OEM ones? Not to be nosey, but I was curious.

Okay. Thanks!!

I bought a used 2014 FFE-Titanium last October. My wife always commented how quiet the car is when we're driving in EV mode. Well, I liked the FFE so much, that I leased a new 2017 FFE-Platinum a month ago. Both my wife and I noticed that the 2017 makes a louder whine noise that seems to be coming from the drivetrain than the 2014 ever did. It's still there when using the ICE, but not as noticeable due to the engine noise,The 2014 had 40k miles on it and, of course, the 2017 has just 1k. Has anyone else experienced a noticeable drivetrain whine? I'm assuming it's from the transmission, since it's present in all modes. Is that something that gets better with mileage? Thanks in advance for any and all help. John

Actually, I'm not sure about either the time or speed. I will certainly make a note of it on the way home from work, today. But, this just started happening. A few days ago, I'd be at a complete stop as I'm transitioning from backing out of a parking place to shifting to drive and moving forward. The display would immediately shift back to the infotainment system. This is what has me concerned. Is there a place to turn the delay on and off? I might have accidently turned it on, as I've been getting to know the infotainment's system and going through the menus and screens, etc. Edit: I did a quick check on the internet and learned about the rear camera delay setting. I may have inadvertently turned it on. Thanks for your help, guys!!

For the last few days, whenever I backup to leave a parking space, the rear view camera is shown on the display. But when I then shift into Drive and start moving forward, the camera view stays on! I can keep driving and see what's behind me!! So, it's still broadcasting live. The only way to turn it off is to place the knob in Park, then the regular screen comes back. I turn it to Drive and everything's back to normal. Has anyone else had this problem? I wonder if it's due to the new rotary knob shifter???

I usually checking my Brake coach when I come to a complete stop. And, I usually note the final score when I have arrived at my destination and shut the car off. I'm still not sure which braking technique leads to higher scores and more efficient regeneration. I've noticed that if I wait to the last second to start braking and brake harder than normal, the score is around 60%. However, I seem to get that same score when I start braking much earlier. Then, seemingly out of the blue, I'll brake and get a score of high 90's? Has anyone discovered the best braking technique for the highest score?

Newbie question. I was playing with my car's infotainment system. I noticed on one screen it allowed the car to get on a local wifi. What's the purpose for that? What can I download? Updates? Thanks in advance

Yes. I did mean right side. Sorry. Maybe I was just confusing it with my 2013. I always liked the time and temp there, since I could always find it. Sometimes the big screen moves the location of the time display and doesn't display the temp, depending upon which screen you have showing. Thanks.

Ok. Thanks guys.

Does anybody know what this sensor is used for? I was thinking about getting a dash cover, but thought it might affect this sensor (or whatever it is.) Thanks
-
This is on the left side screen, on the lower end. The readout is now "Range". When I bought the car it displayed the "Time". (Unless I'm confusing it with my 2014.) Does anyone know how to control what information this readout displays? Thanks

In October of last year, I got a gig (I'm a mechanical engineer contractor) working at a company whose location required me to drive in commuter traffic. BIG shock, after working from home for 5 years. My daily driver ride was 2007 Mustang Shelby GT with its 330hp V8. So, low gas mileage and stop and go traffic with a stick shift was not something I looked forward to twice a day. After research, I bought a used 2014 FFE Titanium from the local Ford dealer and got the car pool lane stickers. I really liked the car, the gas mileage and it's ability to drive in the car pool lane. However, it only have nav and the moonroof as far as options. Then it happened!!. At the annual San Francisco Car Show during Thanksgiving week, I saw a 2017 FFE Platinum. That leather interior with the diamond stitching in various areas...WOW!!. It was Velvet Burgundy and looked gorgeous under the florescent lights of the Auto Show Arena. Plus, by then, I was having buyers remorse over the 2014, since it lacked all of the electronic driving aids. And the Platinum had them all. Long story short, ended up leasing the 2017 FFE Platinum, in, you guessed it, Velvet Burgundy. And I absolutely love it!! The 2014 is up for sale.

2015 Fusion Energi with H&R Springs - Photos

Did you also have to get new struts/shocks to account for the lowered ride height? Thanks -
Recently purchased a 2017 FFPE. Since so much is leather covered, I would like to keep on top of maintaining it. What's everyone using to clean and protect their leather? Is the old standard Lexol still recommended? Or are there better products out now? Thanks

Trying to Understand Battery Range Issues

Oh. Thanks for clearing that up. I can understand why you would want to use it (i.e. recharge the batteries more quickly), but why would you not want to use it? Thanks -
Trying to Understand Battery Range Issues
jaydubau replied to jaydubau's topic in Batteries & Charging
"... I'll use LOW, EVLater on FWY at 60mph or higher ..." So, how fast can you go in LOW? Also, is the consensus that I should drive the highway section (60~80mph) of my commute all in EV later? If so, my HVB won't be depleted when I get to work. They offer free recharging at work, which I want to take advantage of. So I like to arrive at work with a depleted HVB. I sounds like I may be stuck with ~15 mi EV range due to my computer profile, at least until the ambient temperature rises due to spring/summer. -
Trying to Understand Battery Range Issues
jaydubau replied to jaydubau's topic in Batteries & Charging
Thanks for the information, guys. So, my commute is maybe 5 miles on city streets and 35 miles on the highway, each way. There are 3 or 4 major grades on the highway, this being the San Francisco region and all. I've been using the Auto (EV) setting on the city streets and flat sections of the highway until the battery discharges. I've been using the gas engine setting to drive up the grades. Does that make the most sense? I thought that the engine would be more efficient going up highway grades. Also, when I'm on the flat sections of the highway, I typically drive 70~80mph. Is the EV or engine more efficient running at those speeds. I've tried various scenarios, but nothing has proved very conclusive. Thanks, again, for your help. -
I'm trying to understand why the maximum displayed range for my fully charged battery is now 15, when a month ago it was 20 miles. I bought a new 2017 Platinum Energi a month ago. I use it to commute 40 miles one way to work. All but 5 miles is on the highway doing between 60~80 mph. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. When I first started to use the car, the battery would show 20 miles after an overnight charge when I got in for my morning commute. Now, a month later, it only shows ~15 miles after the same overnight charge as I get in it for my commute. The overnight temps have changed a bit during this time, but not much. Does it only show 15 now since it assumes I'll be doing my commute and the highway speed cuts the batter range to 15 mile? Otherwise I'm at a loss as to why it won't go back up to 20 miles. Also, the company lets us charge for free while we're a work. The use ChargePoint's 240 VAC chargers. Same thing happens for my afternoon commute. I did do a search on this topic and read through most of the postings. But now, I'm even more confused. Thanks, in advance. John

Glad you got it cleared up. Does the different mounting hardware which you mention come with the splash guards or did you have to buy those separate? Also, what are the different install instructions that you also mention. Also, do you need to drill any holes to install the splash guards. I've been looking at these for awhile and nobody at the dealership knows if I have to drill holes to install the splash guards. Thanks for any and all help that you can provide. John

I bought a used 2014 Titanium Energi in October. I have about a 40 mile each way commute. Half the trip is reverse commute and the other half is in the commute lane, so I got the stickers. The car only had the sunroof and navigation as the only options. I really liked the car, but wanted the adoptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, etc. So, with the $7k rebate from Ford coupled with about a $4k discount from the dealer, allowed the priced of a new 2017 Platinum Energi to drop from about $42k to $31k. I leased it for 3 years, $5k down and 18k miles per year due to my commute. Payments worked out to about $420/month. Well, I went for it. The Platinum is a FANTASTIC car. Leather covered everything. If anyone's on the fence I would highly suggest they go for it!!!!

Do they display in miles or can I configure them for elapsed time? In other words, I'd like to know how long it takes for my commute. I know I can make a note of the time when I leave and try to remember to note the time when I arrive. But, on my 2007 Mustang, for example, I can push a button and a stopwatch function starts. When I arrive at work, I press it again and it records how long the trip took. Does that make sense?
