  1. . You are my hero murphy! Are there any working class folk out there who think my math is right or wrong?
  2. Energi question My nerd brain wants an Energi, my logic side says Hybrid. Assume 1. A Fusion hybrid gets 45 MPG 2. A Fusion Energi gets 65MPG 3. My drive is 25 miles city, 85 miles highway 5 days a way round trip 4. A Fusion Energi can go 20 miles on full EV after overnight charge. 5. Plug in electricity is free (ha!) 6. Gas is $2.25 a gallon Hybrid scenario: 110 miles @45MPG = 2.44 gallons. Cost for round trip is 2.44 gallons x $2.25 = $5.50 per day Energi scenario: 110 miles @65MPG = 1.7 gallons. Cost for round trip is 1.7 gallons x $2.25 = $3.81 per day So an Energi saves me $1.70 a day over a hybrid (off that free electricity!) All other factors even * Both cars cost same * ignore the few disadvantages of a Fusion Energi over a hybrid (trunk, weight, no fold down seats, hard to find service or parts, battery differences (?), etc) Is this math right? An Energi saves me less than $2 per day? Am I crazy for wanting an Energi? Thanks!
  3. Here's a new thought.. Scenario.. Can Trump kill the Ford Fusion Energi $4,007 credit? Or is it scheduled to be killed on its own?
  4. Total is 14 miles street and 86 highway. Since my understanding is the car never charges the EV battery I would do best to use all EV getting to/from the highway. I get my best hybrid mileage on the freeway so that is a plus. Driving around 27,000 miles per year could really add up to some savings..
  5. Here is a typical soft lease offer from Ford on a new 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Titanium tweaked to my liking. How do you calculate the "buyout" amount from this information? This would be a check I would write to them to purchase the title to the vehicle at the end of lease. I assume, at lease end, whether I bring in the car with 10 miles on it (like new), or with 100,000 miles and the car smashed up, its the same check I am writing. I will likely go over my miles by 8,000 - 10,000 at least. 6. Thank you Jeff.Very encouraging. I will give another try to the 100 mile radius search. Finding 3 is better than 0. I must have done something wrong.
  7. I guess that information wants me to look at other cars all in itself. Very discouraging. Those 4 "St. Louis matches" were actually on the lot? I saw 2 listed as "New Inventory" at 1 local dealer, but the second inspection implied they were "distant" vehicles a salesman had apparently pre-located from somewhere else (hoping I would call).
  8. Just some observations.. I log onto all 12 Ford Dealers web sites in St. Louis. Not one has a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi in Stock. One dealer has two "extended inventory" Fusion Energi models. Those Energi's could be in Honolulu (This is where the mole comes in..)Hearing stories in this forum like "I put down $$ on a new Fusion Energi in Denver but someone else got to it first (Whac-a-moled). Same deal when I paid down $$ on one in San Diego -- gone a few hours later.Tell me where I am wrong.. To get a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum I will need to either: Obtain several distant dealer sales people, in different cities watching for Fusion Energi Platinum models "popping" up from dealerships in unknown parts. Then a salesman can "Whac em" for me.Go down to my local ford dealer and order one. (Attempts to push me into other configurations) are laughed off.I am not ready today. Just trying to plan when I am ready. Hey it's Black Friday $1000 cash day (all month I assume). Thanks :noobie:
  9. So on my 55 mile ice cold January commute I would be wise to let my combustion engine warm up the car (and me) for the first 15 miles, and the EV take over for the last 15.
  10. 5 years is max for me (150,000 miles) $1,650 - $2500 depending on deductible would "kill" my tax credit for sure!
  11. A few thoughts. .. Seems like charging your battery all night would help a lot with the "60 degree" issue. My garage interior dips below 60 degrees for about 15 weeks a year. I would think my battery, plugged into the wall alll night would be at 60 degrees (or more) unless the garage was frigid (2-3 weeks a year). As long as I deplete my battery before I get to work (assume my battery goes cold in my parking lot at work all day), I should get the "Energi benefit" EV mode benefit on my morning commute 45-50 weeks a year. On a conventional automobile the heater and defrost are working off your water coolant temperature and not the battery. Begs the question: in EV mode does the engine cam shaft rotate at all? ("brake" engine mode should charge the battery AND heat up the radiator a bit since there is no spark). Heating your seat and steering wheel would be the only battery drain for heating the interior (right?) Still learnin about the Energi.. Thanks
  12. I am thinking of buying a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Platinum. I drive about 110 miles per day (55 miles round trip), 80% interstate. No lease is affordable at 30,000 miles per year.. About 5 times a week I experience some quality stop and go time as I cross the St. Louis metro area a twice a day. I currently drive a 2010 Honda Insight (newer one, not the weird one) which gets 50MPG solid each day. The Insight is too small for my (now) teenage kids. I want: Great gas mileage. Nerd factor: Honda Insight is a hybrid with lots of telemetry (charging, not charging). So playing the "hypermiling" game is interesting to me. As much safety as I can get. Lots of questions on whether the Ford "Smart" technology actually meets the promise on the glossy brochures (for example, can I really make it across the metro area without touching the brake? ("Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go") Who needs a trunk? My wife has a big crossover. (I am guessing an Energi with a big Thule on top doesn't get 90MPG).The $4007 tax break would be nice. Wish my employer would let me plugin for the ride home, but that won't happen (anyone have a Tesla adaptor? Maybe I could fillup there. A joke. I did see a Tesla charging station once in town). I'll plugin all night every day. I am also concerned that I will get a "jaw drop" from any Ford car salesman. "An Energi? This ain't California. I can get one in eight weeks. Excuse me .. there's someone in the parking lot.." Thanks
  13. Clear as mud. You replies make sense. Thanks So the highlighted price on the "build & price" is your choice of a "monthly lease" price or a "Red Carpet Lease" price. Either way its a lease. The Fall 2016 "Program #50378": "For Red Carpet Lease incentives [cash back], take new retail delivery from dealer stock by XX/XX/XX. See dealer for complete details. Amount: $6,507, Offer Valid: Oct 4, 2016-Jan 3, 2017" Build and price "S3 credit" of $6,507 is not explained in any way, shape or form. Assuming it includes the $4,007 IRS credit that's still $1,400 in "mystery" incentive. Truecar.com shows 14-16 incentives to muddle through. Sigh.. S3 "Offers shown may not be available to all customers. Incentives lists are examples of offers available at the time of posting and are subject to change and expiration. Not all incentives can be redeemed together. To take advantage of rebates, incentives and/or financing offers you must take new retail delivery from dealer stock by the expiration date noted. Not all buyers will qualify for Ford Credit financing or other offers. Restrictions apply. See your local dealer for complete details."
  14. So if I walk into my Ford dealer to buy a 2017 Ford Fusion Energi, and we negotiate a price, has the salesman already included this $4,007? (or is this something I apply for through a rebate later?) Vehicle Description: Ford Fusion Energi Model Year: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 Credit Amount: $4,007 30D.
