Does a Ford fusion hybrid require an electric dealership for ESP ? (Not Energi) -
Ford ESP (Extended Service Plan) the poll
ClaveMan replied to meyersnole's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
I have a few questions about Ford ESP If my Energi breaks down, What are the limits on towing it to the nearest ford electric certified dealership ? -
Thank you again! Now this is getting interesting. With a ZIP code you can find dealers who are certified by Ford for electric vehicle repair. My broker (again not working for a dealer) will need to make sure the dealership is certified. On top of this I assume they would keep a record in their computer of when they cycled (charged) the HVB. What lingo should we use to the salesman? "We will need to see the charge/discharge record from the shop since that (FFE) vehicle was delivered in May." Sound about right? And most important what would be a proper response from the salesman? 1. "What? It's an electric?" 2. "I'll get right back to you.." 3. "I'll ask the service manager" 4. "Service Tech says they charged in July". How oftern and what proof of charging should I get from the dealer computer? https://owner.ford.com/dealer-locator.html#/?electricVehicleRepair=true

I kind of like the look of this 240 volt EVSE I saw on the Ford web site (Leviton is mentioned as manufacturer). The Ford badge is pretty dim in this snapshot from a video on charging the FFE at owner.ford.com I don't see it in the Ford accessories catalogue. I was thinking of asking the dealer to "throw it in" or get a super discount on car purchase. Are the "Leviton" EVSE's you mentioned in your garage stamped as "Leviton" or "Ford", etc?

Wall charger for 240v shown in owner.ford.com video for FFE -
Thank you so much. Working with a non-dealer associated "auto conceirge" service tomorrow to find a FFE Platinum somewhere within the Mid West. Sorry for all the questions murphy. I do appreciate. To Summarize. A new FFE properly "prepped" by the dealer should have these items: Air compressor with a "goo" cartridge [12v I assume]120 volt EVSE (sometimes improperly called a charger) in the trunk.Plastic [Gasoline] funnel in the trunk. ("deal killer" ha)Carpeted floor mats come with the car. Dead 12 volt battery (I will insist they test it. I've killed 5 baby batteries in my Honda Insight over 7 years). You mentioned: "The HVB should be okay since it is completely disconnected when the car is off." I know there are gigabytes of discussions on the HVB to trudge through. But I will ask here even if a duplicate.. Are you saying there is nothing to fear in buying a FFE with the "7.6 kWh lithium-ion battery" sitting for 3, 6, 9, 12 months? So "born on date" is not the most important factor in me choosing from 6 never-titled (new) FFE Platinums? This is a very likely scenario for me (I expect to be given a platter with some new FFE's close, some far, some recent, some sitting on the lot rotting for months). Thanks Again

Ford wants $795 to add "Voice-Activated Navigation" to a 2017 FFE Titanium. If I don't get the $795 Nav option will I still have SYNC3 capability (and can connect my Android Auto or Car Play and use their navigation)? (Real Question.. Is there a consequence to not getting the $795 Navigation option? (other than no Ford based Navigation/Traffic info) Thanks

What are the "gotcha's" when buying a new Energi that the Ford dealership would be in control of? Here a few I am concerned about: I am looking at a FFE that has been on the lot sitting there 3, 6, and even one at 9 months. What happens to the Lithium Ion battery when it just sits there on the dealer lot? How important is it to get a "fresh Energi"?Are there Energi specific accessories I can buy from the dealer? (I want to pre-negotiate as much as possible). For example: Is there a 240v charging cable and wall outlet (or some kind of package)? I can't find it through the ford.com site. What items does the factory put in the car that aren't nailed down? I am terrified some idiot salesman or prep dude is going to leave my XXX on the floor of the shop as I drive away (or a salesman took my floormat to give to another buyer). Is there a checklist?

Secret Ford Website -- Ultimate VIN Lookup
ClaveMan replied to ClaveMan's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
So you are saying the site information is useless after a few days. Do you know a website that will tell me more updated info for a VIN (other than CarFax which is after the car is titled I think). -

I would love to hear from someone who actually sat in a traffic jam and it helped them. I hate traffic jams. -
Secret Ford Website -- Ultimate VIN Lookup

Good. I always search before I post. Since you are familiar with the FordEtis you can tell us what it is, who uses it, and maybe why. It has a lot of european lingo.. -
I give up. I go to Ford.com and build & price a FFE Platinum. I do 100 mile radius searches with St. Louis as epicenter. I find: 0 in Missouri1 in Indianapolis (on lot since June!)1 in Lexington (on lot since September)2 in Chicago metro (0 in Dallas, Memphis, OKC, Cincinnati5 in Detroit28 in San Francisco :)What a buyer's market! Ford is offering $2500 "Smart Bonus Tag" incentives and low financing through New Years. Half of these FFE platinums have been on the lot for 3 - 9 months.Year over year Ford EV sales through Sep 2016 are down 20% (IRS IRC 300 Report) $4,007 Federal Tax Credit (as of 11/26/2016 (per IRS 30D) So I am engaging a "auto buying conceirge" in LA to do a deal and hopefully put a new FFE Platinum in my St. Louis driveway. We'll see what happens soon.

Here is a web page that is quirky but unbelievable deep in Ford information. Definitely not for customer consumption. It thinks a VIN for a 2017 FFE is for a "2002 Ford Transit" (but the other information is 100% legitimate). Observations: Enter a Ford VIN and you will be shown every detail about the vehicle includingBorn on dateManufacturing plantA listing of EVERY possible feature a Ford(?) can have. (If the VIN doesn't have it, the detail item will say something like Less Roof Rack, or Less Rear Window Wiper/Washer"."Field Actions" (Service Bulletins?) For example, the VIN I entered needs: "16E03 - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING"British lingo? (It's a "Saloon", not a "Sedan"), ("Tyre Pressure Indicator"), ("Odour Filter"), etc.Service SchedulesFirst Responder guides to tear into any Ford vehicle ("Safety Cards" -- sounds European).Enjoy: Welcome to FordEtis – the Online Technical Information and Services website from Ford. http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

This sounds like its too good to be true. Does this really work? Anyone tried it in a traffic jam? Ford Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go When Fusion is in cruise mode, a radar sensor detects slowing traffic ahead and can automatically brake and accelerate to keep you moving with the pace of traffic10. With the addition of stop-and-go, the feature can bring your vehicle to a complete stop in stopped traffic and restart it as traffic begins to move. I have been shopping around based on safety features and driver assist technologies. The Fusion Titanium and Platinum blow everything else away (even other Ford's I looked at do not have "Stop-and-Go" nor the ability to stop the car (if you don't). It's mind boggling.

2016 Chevy Volt vs Ford Fusion Energi - My comparison
ClaveMan replied to geohec's topic in Competing Products
Ford calls this "Auto Start-Stop". If it can, the vehicle shuts off the engine when you hold down the break. "If it can" means if the A/C is running or other electrical load it might not stop. -

I assume you are talking about the stop and go "traffic jam" braking in heavy traffic? I was curious if that actually works. I haven't seen a feature (to do the braking for you) anywhere else but a " well equipped" Fusion. I am discussing a feature common to hybrid and some newer cars where when you stop at a stoplight the engine cuts off for a minute. Obviously this helps curb emissions and saves fuel. Does the FFE have this? -
Is the "available pothole detection" from Ford available on the 2017 FFE (assume Platinum)? I see it on the 2017 Fusion Sport. The Ford expert/engineer in this video calls it "CCD and Pothole Mitigation". I would love to drive over a pothole full of ping pong balls and not even know it. I saw this on a $45,000 Lincoln MKC Reserve as a $650 option. 2017 Ford Fusion with pothole detection feature

Does the 2017 FFE have Fords "Auto Start-Stop" feature. My 2010 Honda Insight stops the A/C about 75% on hot days at stop lights when the auto stop engages. I put it neutral and rev the engine at stop lights in order to bear 100+ heat. -

I looked at a 2017 Volt briefly. Dealers seem to have them in stock now. I want the most safety you can buy. The FFE has the most I have seen anywhere (Mazda is close) outside a Euro car). The Volt doesn't have any pre-collision braking (in GM lingo the 2017 Chevy Volt pre-collision feature is "Late Availability" which means it will be in the 2018 model.) -

Hee hee.. I love spreadsheets when buying a car. More factors and math the better. A psychology professor once said to my class that there are generally two ways of decision making: 1. Thinking (person who does a big spreadsheet to buy a car) 2. Emotion (OMG that RED car is perfect. I'll take it!) So true.. -

Forget brake regeneration charging for a sec. The 2017 Volt has a new "Regen on Demand®" paddle you have to pull to get the car to charge when coasting. The Volt'ees are all excited about it on their forum. Yuck. My 2010 Honda Insight somehow does this without me having to put my coffee down to grab a paddle. It has a computer that switches to charging the battery through the wheels & gravity turning the engine (no gas is fed). The driver isn't even aware. Happens dozens of times per minute on flat roads in traffic. I assume the Energi system can harness a transfer of momentum (coast on flat road) or gravity (down hill off the gas but not on the brakes) when car is coasting? The idea is the gas is cut off to the engine. Then some kind of clutch rotates the engine cam shaft and the wheels turn it (reverse of normal) which turns the rotor/stator on a generator which charges the battery? -
The John Kennedy family in Philadelphia is doing pretty well. Wow!I am casually dating a salesman 250 miles away over a platinum in a color and interior I don't want because his price is lower than the other TWO that are ONLY 200 miles away. Sigh. $200-400 for a one way ticket to pickup the car.. I wonder how much to drop a car in my driveway. Lou Fusz Ford in St. Louis dropped off my brother in laws new F150 in his driveway last year (12 miles). The funny part is the truck had a huge dent in the tailgate (classic!). [update.. They tried to get me to pay destination $875 after it was clearly deducted on internet offer. Not enough incentives, Wrong color, and I specifically said I would only talk to the Internet Sales Person. I got the first jughead commission salesman who trolled the inbox before the internet guy got in this morning. He didn't even work at the dealership with the car. Big thanks to mailinator.com so I could stay anonymous from these clowns. Sigh.]

murphy the MBA. So people should not buy in October. (No negotiating power). OF course only finding 4 Energi's withing 250 miles of me doesn't help my negotiating position either...

Are we crazy for wanting an Energi?!
ClaveMan replied to jessa07's topic in Buying, Leasing & Ordering
Thanks. The thought of owning an Energi gives me energy! But I can't find one. I spent a half hour trying "100 mile radius checks" on ford.com in St. Louis, Springfield, IL, Kansas City, Memphis, Chicago, and Indianapolis. I found only 3 Energi's -- 2 near Chicago and 1 in Indianapolis. That's out of 100's of Fusions. . I guess I need to move to CA. Patience.. -
Informative site! It appears there is a drop-off of EV car sales at the start of each calendar quarter (and a sales peak at the end of each quarter almost like clock-work. What does that mean? Interesting.
