2017 Energi with 9,000 Miles Won't Start
Paul Creed III replied to Paul Creed III's topic in Maintenance
In May, I had to take the car in for more "system off to save power" messages and two software updates were applied to resolve the issue. Last week, the "system off..." message reappeared and the car is back at the dealer. No new software updates and the 12volt battery tests fine. -
Got my car back a few days ago: turns out that there were software updates from early April that needed applied for the TCU and ACM for, you guessed it, 12volt battery drain issues. So far, so good now.

FYI, my Energi is experiencing 12volt issues again so I called the dealer: turns out, there is a software update for the 12volt battery drain issue that was issued in early April. Appointment with the dealer tonight for the software update.

2017 Energi with 9,000 Miles Won't Start
Paul Creed III replied to Paul Creed III's topic in Maintenance
Update: after driving yesterday with no voltage issues and leaving it parked overnight at a hotel unplugged, I got up to 35 degree weather and a "system off to save power" message on the touchscreen with the voltmeter noting 10.5volts for a couple seconds right after pressing the Start button and with the voltage then increasing to over 14 as the HVB took over. I'm going to keep a close eye on it but I see a dealership visit in my future very soon. -

I purchased a cigarette lighter 12volt monitor. When the car initially wakes up after opening the doors (with the charger now unplugged) and before pressing the Start button, voltage is close to 12; once the Start button is engaged and the car is "running" on either the HVB or the ICE, the voltage remains in the mid-14's. -

I've used Low a few times; need to get into the habit of using it more when in the city. What cigarette lighter DVM did you buy? That might be a good investment. BTW, I continue to drive it by switching modes myself. -

Yup, the 12volt battery was dead. Dealership told me that I wasn't driving it right since I switch between EVNow and EVLater as road conditions dictate rather then use Auto all the time from which the mythical alternator can charge the 12v battery. What's interesting is that the telemetrics unit which stopped working in January started working again right away after the 12v battery was recharged. Sounds like there was a software issue that prevented the 12v battery from getting charged when plugged in at night and a full reboot (from a dead 12volt) solved the issue. Seems to me that Ford could have added a simple 12v battery gauge so we know what the thing's up to; I mean, we've had one of those gauges for, what, a 100 years now on "old fashioned" cars. -
12 Volt battery just died on my 2017 Energi Platinum.

Turns out my car was manufactured in August of 2016 and it already has a software version greater than the three updates noted above in the thread. I'm going to have a hard time driving in Auto all the time but I'll do as the dealer wishes. -

I plug the car in when I get home each night around 6PM and it remains plugged in all night until 7:30AM the next morning which is more than enough time to fully charge the HVB using the 120volt charging cable. Charging of even a totally dead HVB is usually completed around 4AM so there are at least a couple of additional hours to charge the 12volt battery. Many nights, the HVB is not fully discharged so that should mean there is even more time to charge the 12volt. -

Just called and left a message with my service manager regarding the 3 software updates; I am uncertain of the manufacture date. We'll see what he says. -

Got my 2017 Energi back. The 12volt battery tested fine. The service manager told me that it was likely my driving style that caused the 12volt to go dead. I had been conducting much of my driving to work each day in EVNow only mode to ensure as little ICE usage as possible and manually switching between EVNow and EVLater when appropriate (known city driving and highway) so as to use the HVB where it works best: city driving. The manager noted that rarely driving in Auto means that the car is expending the 12volt battery to start the ICE and managing the electronics prior to HVB take-over and is never able to fully recharge it via the alternator thus causing my failure. He noted that plugging the car in to charge the EVB never charges the 12volt battery. Thus, he said that it is best to just always drive in Auto and don't bother switching modes - let the car figure things out on its own and it'll start the ICE (when in Auto mode) if the 12volt is needing to be charged by the alternator. -

Having just had my 2017 Energi towed due to a dead 12 volt battery, the technician told me that the symptoms of the system going into power save mode after being parked for only a few hours is a sign (and the only one) that the 12 volt is about to die. -
So, I go to leave work tonight, hop in, and before I can press the start button, all of the dash displays go dark as does the touch screen. The shifter dial has the amber "P" light blinking and I hear a clicking noise coming from the front. Nothing works at all. Waiting on roadside assistance now.

2017 ford energi and the myford mobile app not working
Paul Creed III replied to lbenner's topic in My Ford Mobile
My app quit working in mid-January. Unable to remote start or get updated vehicle information although it seems to do it once-in-a-while but never when I actually want to use the app. -
Hello, I am contemplating a 2017 Energi and am curious about data collection like what the Automatic OBDC-II device collects. I find the Automatic's upload of data to the web useful in regards to where I have driven, how fast, and how well. Having the ability to read trouble-codes is useful as well. What data collection abilities are built-in to the Energi and how can this data be accessed? Thanks!

Hello, I am contemplating a Fusion Energi and wanted to inquire from others who own one in the northern states where we can get some significant snow in the winter. How does the car handle in the snow, say, 5 inches or less. (More than 5 inches, I am staying home!) Thanks!
