Is there a device (possibly Bluetooth to a phone) that can read battery temp and battery voltage while driving ? Also, I put my wind gauge on the back shelf because it doesn’t feel like Air is sucking in that much when charging and it’s sucking at 1.6mph. I would think that would be low airflow to try and cool the hot batteries during charging.

Thanks for the reply. I charged last night so the car sat all night charged in the garage. I did precondition the car this morning and but since the preconditioning on 220 doesn’t go through the battery I wouldn’t think that’s why the motor started up 4 times on my way to work. The first was about 10 minutes after I left for work. I’m pretty sure when on 110 and you precondition it’s using the battery cause last week when I left work I preconditioned for 10 minutes (on 110v and 110 degrees outside) it ate up a bunch of EV miles when I got in the car to head home.

Here's a photo from my car last week after I got home from work. I think it was 110 degrees outside when I left work and the engine ran 100% of the time all the way home. Didn't even shut off while at stop lights.

Ok, thank you very much. Totally appreciate it and glad I’m not damaging the car when on the freeway when the battery runs out.

I work in the middle of the desert outside of tucson and here at the airport it regularly gets 110 during summer. This is my first summer here with my 2015 Fusion Energi (owned since new) and last week I got home from my 33 me commute and the engine ran 100% of the time and also used the whole battery and my mpg was 46. I think it’s the heat, today on my way home I’m going to not turn on the AC for a minute or so and see if it will run on battery only. I charge on 110 at work and it sits for 3hrs or so fully charged until I leave for home so I’d think the battery is cooled down from charging. Weird thing this morning on my drive to work is it was 80f and I would think I’d get 100% battery until it ran out BUt the motor came on 4 diffent times. And every time I was way below the blue line in the Empower display so the engine shouldn’t have come on. And I had no AC on and the windows down. I also changed the cabin air filter this past weekend and nothing is on the shelf in back. I don’t know why the motor came on. I have an appointment at the dealer but I’ve talked to them a few times and they say there’s probably nothing wrong and it’s just the heat. My car has 60k miles and out of warranty but I have an extended warranty but I have to pay $165 for the diagnostics. My appointment isn’t for a a few more weeks and hopefully I can sort it out before then, to see if it’s normal in this heat or there’s something wrong.

I’ve always warmed my ICE cars for a few minutes to let the oil warm up and hopefully make the motor last a little longer. On my work commute by my battery is depleted I’m already on the freeway going 75-80 and I always wondered if there’s any damage occurring from the motor being cold to instantly running hard. I figured it’s built that way so maybe there’s something to help it out like a oil pre-warmer or something like that.

Thank you, on my way to work it’s about 85 degrees and I’m 10 miles street and 19 freeway then 3 miles street again with no lights and driving about 65mph on the last stretch and 75 on the freeway. I usuly get to work and have about 20-22 miles EV with a few miles regen. It’s on the way home that it’s terrible due to it being 110-116 degrees. I work at an old army base in the middle of the desert and my car just sits in the burning sun all day long. I’ll see what happens this week.

Ok, thanks. For some reason I thought I read somewhere that my year was a 7kw battery. So I’m getting 4.5kw out of the 7.6kw so I’ve lost 40% ? Or is 7.6kw the total capacity and the usable is lower? Either way I think my battery degradation is more than it should be.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. My AC is totally fine and blows ice cold. I did watch a video and changed the cabin filter yesterday and is was pretty dirty. There is nothing blocking the shelf. The car worked fine and operated as normal but I’ll have to see when I get off work tomorrow and see how it is. I was talking about not using the AC for a minute or so to see if the engine would still kick in and if it does tomorrow then I think something is wrong. I charge on 110 at work and the car is charged for about 3hrs by the time I get off work so I would think the battery wouldn’t be too hot for the battery to run without the engine. I think my car has a 7kw battery and the 2016 on has a 7.5kw. So after almost 3yrs if i only get 4.5kw out of it I guess that may be normal degradation. I just don’t know how much more it will lose and a big decision. My lease is up in October and I would turn in the car cause I’ve had a Tesla Model3 reservation for over two years and that’s the ultimate car I’ve beem wanting forever. But I’m already way over my miles and by the time my lease is up, I’m going to owe $4-4,500 in mileage so I may just buy the car and drive it for a few more years if the battery holds. And as far as trying to take car of the battery, I haven’t done anything. I get home and immediately charge it. And when I get to work, I also immediately charge it. And on the weekends if I’m running around all day, I charge it whenever I get back home each time. Anyways, I’ll see how the Empower line is after work tomorrow and hopefully it’s higher than it usually is and it will run on battery alone until I turn on the AC after my test.

I have a 2015 Fusion Energi since new and now in the Arizona desert getting to 110° my car sometimes will not run on the battery. I charge at night and it's fine going to work and I charge on 110 at work and the battery is charged about 3 hours before I leave for work. In the last two days whenever I get in the car after work, the car won't even run on the battery. I know it takes a lot of KW's to run the AC when it's 110° but I've even tried with no AC and the Empower bar is so low that when I give it just a little gas the engine starts up. Just curious if it's the heat, or is there something wrong. I called the dealer and they said it's normal. But on my 33 mile drive home the engine ran the entire time and when I got home my trip gauge said I used 4.5kw and my EV was 0. I think my car has a 7kw battery and I don't remember how many KW's it used when I bought the car but after almost 3yrs and 60k miles I think only getting 4.5kw from the battery may be normal degradation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The depreciation is terrible with the Fusion. I have a 2015 SE with sunroof, NAV, push button start, and have it listed for 16k and I hope I can even get that. I bought it new with zero down and $328 month for a 3yr lease. It still looks new and I have 60k miles. I also paid $2,400 for a zero deductible Ford Premium Care warranty for 2 more years and up to 125k miles. The battery still has plenty of juice and I can sometimes get 20-22 miles out of it. The reason for selling is I'm going to owe about 4.5k when the lease is due in a few months and I have a Tesla Model 3 thats ready to be built. I'm hoping to only pay a few grand instead of the $4,500 or so that I'll owe if I turn it in. I really love the car but been wanting the Tesla for over 2yrs when I put a deposit on it. I hope it sells and can get 16k for it.

Service Engine Light came on, Please help P04EF

The three dealers in the area all said I have to pay for a rental since I don't have the ESP. Funny thing, this evening when I got in the car, the engine light is not on anymore. I'd still like to bring it in Monday if the lights comes back on over the weekend. If not, maybe I won't worry about it. -

So I had an appointment set for today 4pm and when I got there they said they are very sorry but they are so busy that they cannot honor my appointment. So I have another appointment for Monday. I guess they only have one tune up tech and he is gone today and tomorrow. I do not have the ESP coverage so they said a rental I have to pay for. My car is 2 months old but I have 10,600 miles on it already. My Ford experience has not been very good at all :( -

Unfortunately my dealer is in Arizona and I'm now in California. All 3 dealers here with 20 miles all said I have to pay for a rental since I don't have the ESP. And thy all said making an appointment is no different than just driving in. So if I have a 3pm appt and another person drives up at 3pm my car will get looked at no sooner than theirs. Weird how they all said that. They said they're so busy that the day I drop off my car with an appointment it's very doubtful it will even get looked at that day. I have an appointment tomorrow with one of the dealers so we'll see what happens. And thank for the info on the remote start not working with the engine light on. -
Hello, I just bought a brand new Fusion Energi less than 2 months ago and I do a lot of driving and have 10,600 miles on it already. My check engine light came on a week ago while in Tucson and dealers are not open on Sundays so I had to drive it home to California. The car runs totally fine except now I cannot pre-warm the car in the mornings with the remote start. One dealer said it's because of the engine light being on and a different dealer said it should still work. Anyways, seems Ford service is very busy and the three dealers by me said if I bring it in, it might sit for up to few days until they can look at it. I don't want to pay for a rental car for 2 days before the car even gets looked at. I went to the dealer this evening and at least they got the code which is P04EF which in other threads I've researched means small leak detected and some said it was a canister purge valve. The description for the code that Ford ran says ISO/SAE RESERVED and the service department didn't know what that means and it needs to come in for full service to the techs can do a full diagnosis. I have an appointment for Wed but again, they say they will try to have my car looked at but it could be a day or two until it gets looked at. I'm just seeing if anyone out there has experience with this and to know possibly what it is. I'd hate to have my car there for two days and then looked at and then find out a parts needs to be ordered and that will be another few days. Sorry for the long post. Thanks
