  1. Jonny mo, I am going to try a set of Koni STR.T Street Shocks and Struts using the stock springs, let me know of your results if you go with the KYB set. Like how is the the ride comfort, noise, handling, tire wear etc. Stephen
  2. jsamp, When we bought the Energi it handled great and drove with no rocking and predictable handling, just lately I don't feel safe changing lanes! One or all of my shocks/struts is definitely blown. I have driven and repaired cars for over 40 years, something is wrong now. When you manually push down the front of the car there is no resistance on compression, letting go the car it bounces twice! This is not normal operation on cars equipped with gas charged MacPherson struts.
  3. Anybody on this forum ever replace shocks on their Fusion energi? no reply in 4 days now.....
  4. I found an interesting post about Koni STR. shocks/struts on a 2013 Fusion Energi model: http://www.2gfusions.net/showthread.php?tid=8271 KYB Front Left Suspension Strut and Coil Spring Assembly part# SR4724 KYB Front Right Suspension Strut and Coil Spring Assembly part# SR4723 Koni STR.T Street Shocks and Struts 8750 1113L Koni STR.T Street Shocks and Struts 8750 1113R Koni adjustable rear shock 8250 104 Stephen
  5. Guys, My Fusion Titanium Energi has been great so far, we bought it used for $18k with 10,430 miles on it. Original owner traded it in because of the 12 volt AGM battery was defective! in any case the handling has suddenly gone downhill. At 50k miles the car suddenly started rocking like a boat on the ocean! I looked at the sway bar connections and they are not broken, worn or disconnected. Manually "bouncing" the car it rebounds 2 times not just once like when we purchased it. I guess the struts and rear shocks are suddenly shot. So to fix it I was thinking of going with complete spring, strut and top hat bearing assembly from KYB the KYB Strut-Plus kit for the front and matching KYB rear shocks. Questions: A) are the struts/shocks the problem? B) Replace front struts using the OEM top hats and springs? C) should the front springs be replaced too? D) Is KYB setup the best price/performance choice? E) what have you guys used and the results? PS I don't want to put junk or OEM quality parts, if possible we are keeping this car for at least 130K plus. Stephen
  6. Tayla89, Well, that depends if the car moves or not. With an ECVT you need a partially functional battery at least. See: The Fusion and other hybrids use the electric motors to apply torque and rpm to the road wheel, thus replacing a traditional transmission with lots of gears and multiple clutches (automatic). In a traditional ICE car, the Autonomous transmission uses a separate system of gears, clutches and/or a torque converter taking power from (engine) to apply torque and rpm to the road wheel. In the Fusion Energi/hybrid, all of the electronics will still need to function to move/shift/start the car. Your range may degrade but you still need some battery at least. It's not like you can remove the traction battery and still have a drivable car. Stephen
  7. Timewellspent, Yeah the battery was replaced N/C by Gosch, the dealer that we bought the car from. I was not refunded the $169 dollar diagnostic fee charged by the local dealer so I guess you could say I paid for the new battery. We have had no problems since the repair and now her car is reliable. I wish I could say the same for my 2017 Chevy Volt with 42k miles ! The Volt's electric motors died while driving on the highway. OnStar towed the car to a local Chevy dealer. These were the codes found: P1AEE – Drive Motor 1 Control Module Hybrid/EV Battery System Voltage High Voltage P1AEF – Drive Motor 2 Control Module Hybrid/EV Battery System Voltage High Voltage P1AF0 – Drive Motor 1 Control Module Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage System Isolation Lost P1AF2 – Drive Motor 2 Control Module Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage System Isolation Lost P1E22 – Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Pump Control Module Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage Diagnosis "complete transaxle failure, transaxle requires replacement". They gave me a rental car while the new drivetrain is on order, complex cars....complex problems, I'm lucky this happened under warranty! Stephen
  8. ClaveMan, That is some good information for the next time this happens Cheers!, Stephen
  9. Murphy, Yeah the Fusion Energi model is a unique animal without a regular starter and alternator. With the new battery and reprogram of modules, we should be OK at least for now. I think a cell went bad in the old battery and voltage was too low for the computers to do their job to enable driving the car. Might look into a lithium replacement battery for the car eventually. I ordered a jump device, a STANLEY P2G7S Simple Start Lithium Ion Portable Power and Vehicle Battery Booster for 30 bucks open box that I'll keep in the car just in case. Thanks for the feedback! Stephen
  10. Murphy, That could be an option, how good is the clearcoat on those wraps? Can wraps be removed without damaging the paint underneath? Stephen
  11. Prott69, Yes I have a similar problem 2017 Ford Fusion Energi Manufacture date 03/17 Vin: 3FA6P0SU2 HR329791 I just purchased this used 2017 Fusion Energi and have had immediate battery problems, even before I purchased the car! this Fusion has 13k miles and we paid 18,000 for it. Was that a good deal? well when we looked at the car it has a flawless appearance but it was odd that the salesman had to jump start the Fusion to demonstrate the car. We traded in our old car, did the paperwork and drove the Fusion home. Charged Hybrid battery overnight and used the car the next day. Problems commence! it took my wife a half hour to get inside the car with the remote key Fob and then 20 minutes pushing the start button to get it to turn over. She got the car home and we drove it to the nearest Ford dealer as this was authorized by the Gosch dealer we bought it from (45 miles away). Today at work I looked into this issue and found out that the 2017 has a long full history of dead battery problems! We arranged to get the car to another Gosch dealer (only 20 miles away) and dropped it off there. Is there anything I should tell the dealer to check? They sold it to me as a certified car with a quoted " has a full factory warranty" When we talked to local Ford dealer checking out the car they said the car is not under factory warranty and demanded 169 bucks! Today when we picked up the car at Pearson Ford (local), the car was dead and required the key to get into the car. Push start button did nothing, couldn’t open the trunk and we tried to get to release handle in the trunk via back seat but could not reach the manual release. Finally a worker at Pearson helped us out and jumped started the car from under the hood, he said to us “the dead battery happens quite a lot on these cars, I jump them all the time” Having a constant parasitic drain on any battery will eventually destroy it, also loading the alternator to 100% performance will shorten it’s life too. What a fiasco! no wonder a car with that low mileage was traded in in the first place! Stephen
  12. Yeah, she drives my Chevy Volt every day now but want's the battery topped off every chance she gets. Her commute isn't a 100 miles a day she just drives like crazy and runs up a hundred miles a day, with her previous Nissan Rogue she was spending a $100 a week on gas. She needs the Hybrid mileage (actual 35 mpg+) and absolutely no "battery anxiety" or running out of gas fears, I think the Fusion Energi will work for her just fine. We wanted just a Hybrid Fusion (gets slightly better mileage) but couldn't find one with less than 40k miles on it and in the Titanium trim. I grabbed the Energi car as soon as I heard about it but she still complains that the paint wasn't black! But seeing this deal at that price I quickly traded in her 2014 Optima with 95k miles, has an ABS problem and a half re-painted body. We eliminated her still paying $475 a month payment on the KIA (a "wash" trade in value against loan payoff) and her new payment is $301 all done! I think this is the better solution for her, the KIA dealer wanted $2700 to fix the ABS issue. The Fusion grey magnetic paint color is a minor problem/concession for her to deal with. The KIA was parked at our house just collecting dust and spider webs plus I haven't been driving my Chevy Volt now for 2 months! I have to drive my truck to work! Stephen
  13. Timewellspent, I did demand a new battery if that is the original one that came with the car, we should hear back from them soon. I hope the battery is the only issue, time will tell if that is the only problem. I ordered a portable jump starter to keep in the car just in case. STANLEY P2G7S Simple Start Lithium Ion Portable Power and Vehicle Battery Booster Stephen
  14. I was wondering if anybody has used a replacement Lithium 12 volt battery? 12 Volt Lithium Battery, YTX30L-BS, 30L-BS https://www.bigtimebattery.com/store/12 Volt Lithium Battery-YTX30L-BS-30L-BS.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIn4WYmJOR7AIVEz6tBh2IlgIKEAQYAiABEgLpXfD_BwE
  15. Kmart, That does seem odd, the Fusion only charges with 12amps at 120 VAC I believe and a 20 amp dedicated Receptacle would be at way lower power use than the 80% rule of thumb. Even a 16 amp EVSE L1 model should work all night with no problems. I would check the Receptacle quality, you don't require hospital grade but an industrial quality and screwed in tight should suffice. What exactly trips? the house breaker or the EVSE? Does it feel warm to the touch? Stephen
  16. Laldenett, Besides the car Hybrid battery is 300 to 400 volts DC! a 12 volt "jump pack" only charges the 12 volt lead acid engine starting battery. If you used an inverter to 120 volt, then to an EVSE, then the car's internal inverter/charger to 300-400 volt to charge the hybrid battery pack you can see the losses and how futil such a design would be. Stephen
  17. I used to have a BEV vehicle a Chevy Spark and it would get 50 to 70 miles on a charge and drop dead. I was so paranoid that I got a portable generator, wired it for 240 volts and kept it in the car! The gasoline fumes from the generator stunk up the car and even when I used it, took like a hour to add 6 miles of range. So even with the 3/4 gallon of gas energy it did not help. Sold the car and kept the generator! The physics doesn't work, a thousand pound lithium high energy density battery pack being charged by a light handheld device defies physics. Stephen
  18. Hello all, Haven't been here in a few years but I am now again a new owner of a used Fusion Energi. We bought the car a few days ago, a 2017 Energi Titanium from Gosch Ford in Temecula, CA. The car has 13k miles and we paid 18,000 for it. What a fiasco! no wonder a car with that low mileage was traded in in the first place! I can still return the car in 28 days for credit but no one has a car for that price with the Hybrid option. She drives a hundred miles a day. Please let me know your thoughts keep it? return it? demand to kill the deal? am I stuck with a lemon? buy a jump starter box and bring with? can it be fixed? Thanks
  19. Hybridbear, It was a combination of things. My new girlfriend hated the Spark EV, Range anxiety, too much time spent charging, Problems while charging in public, hassles at work. I only live 7 miles from work and can charge at work L1. Even if I totally use up the battery, 7 hours is the maximum time needed to fully charge on 120 volt.
  20. Picked up a Titanium Fusion Energi on Sunday. Was a giant hassle to negoiate a deal with my trade in car (Spark EV), pay off bank loan ($27k) and get an affordable lease. Shoping for a car and asking for and getting a hand written quote is virtually impossible!
