Does your owner manual state 87 or higher? I always fill up with the mid grade in New Mexico, which is 89, if I recall.

Does anyone use the 'Auto' setting by choice?
stevedebi replied to Bud's topic in Energi Driving Tips & Tricks
As I said, it has the same effect on storing the downhill energy back to EV Later. But I generally stay in EV Auto for the downhill - mostly because I was probably already in EV Auto for the uphill. -

C-Max here. I use Auto when going uphill, so that the battery can assist the ICE. I also use it on downhills, so that excess energy can be stored in the HVB by going back to EV Later at the bottom of the hill. (you could do the downhill by pressing the EV button three times if you like). Very occasionally, I know that I'm in range for using the EV Auto to get home, and I'll turn it on for the ride home. I do that coming back from a relative's house, which is almost exactly the distance that the car can go EV Auto at 65 MPH, and then switch back to EV Now when off the freeway, and still get home on the battery. -
The L1 chargers are cheaper than that. Ebay has them (not OEM, but any compatible charger will work).

2016 Chevy Volt vs Ford Fusion Energi - My comparison
stevedebi replied to geohec's topic in Competing Products
USAA has good rates. You have to be affiliated with military service to join USAA, but if your parents were ever in the military I believe you qualify. -
HB, Now THATS what my 3d battery looks like. Someone needs to tell Ford about this one, there is a bug in the control software. On a side note, I didn't realize the dash was that different from the C-Max. My headlight icon is under the speedometer.

Not really that surprising. The FEH has a 2.5L engine, and is shaped like a big box - it really takes a hit on the highway. Former 2008 FEH AWD owner here. My lifetime was right at 30 MPG with the FEH, but the 2008 was not as efficient as the 2009 and later, and of course the AWD impacted it.

Here is the one from my 2014 C-Max EDIT: On the original picture, I can see the dots from the LCD on the LHD.

From the album: 2014 Cmax

Your 3d battery picture has a white grid superimposed on it, sort of like a chain link fence. Mine is a solid blue color. It could be my monitor I suppose, but the 2D is a solid color. Am I the only one who sees it?

HB, Thanks, that clears it up. On my C-Max it is 3d, but does not have the hash marks in the middle as shown in these pictures.

I think the carging time would also decrease. But at the rates they are speaking of, I plan to have my C-Max for at least 10 years (assuming I buy it off of lease), and will still have capacity left.

2016 Chevy Volt vs Ford Fusion Energi - My comparison

Interesting. I have found that the cooling doesn't work as well for me. Perhaps the C-Max is a bit different, although the battery and charger are the same. -

Be advised that preconditioning the car needs a L2 charger, which requires 220v. The supplied L1 charger cannot cool the car by itself, and will use the HVB percentage instead of the plug in to achieve the comfort level. So if you want to pre-condition, plan on the cost of the L2. -
Hybrid, I'm just not seeing it, but then I'm using a 2014. I'll have to look at the 3D vs 2d again next time I run down.

I've "known" GaryG for about 7 years via online forums. I think he viewed the C-Max as the logical follow on to the Escape Hybrid, so he traded up. His point has always been to maximize the hybrid range. He had a 2005 Escape Hybrid before his 2009 FEH. However, last I heard he had indeed taken at least one longer trip using the ICE. He ran around with a quarter tank for a long time, and obviously he hits the fuel freshness periodically. He is so thorough that he wanted to siphon fuel from the tank so that it would not have to run long in fuel freshness mode. That's when I learned that the C-Max cannot be siphoned. That is a bit too far for me (as are the more extreme hypermiling methods). I'm sure if he had an EV he would be maximizing that too.

Back on point, it sounds like there is some problem with your battery system. I'd take it in to the dealer and have them check it. The hybrid components have an extended warranty.
-
Raja, He has a 2013, the HVB battery has a percentage on it (although maybe it can be dropped in the 2013 via the settings menu; so far as I know it can't be changed in the 2014 and they removed the text in 2015). That is what I meant when I said it is the hybrid battery. That battery display is what I get when the HVB depletes - the text is removed and the "normal" battery comes up. Whatever battery it is, yes, it is full. But that has a vastly different meaning for HVB and hybrid battery displays.

Considering Fusion Energi & typical electric only freeway miles
stevedebi replied to geohec's topic in Batteries & Charging
You pay the taxes anyway, on the monthly lease payment. But if you don't buy the car at the end of the lease, there is no further sales taxes. -

Is your car an SE? Does it have keyless entry? -
I had that 4.0L ranger in the early 90's. Great engine. I got 23 MPG on the road, 17 MPG in town, as I recall. But it was a stick shift.

Considering Fusion Energi & typical electric only freeway miles
stevedebi replied to geohec's topic in Batteries & Charging
A 50 mile commute is going to be tough to achieve in a Fusion Energi, especially in winter temperatures. If you are really insist on all EV, the Volt might be the way to go. But I think you are on the right track - drive both. It might be worth a couple gallons a week to drive the Fusion, with it's comfort and conveniences. But do consider cargo capacity as well! Just my thoughts - I drive a C-Max Energi myself - I prefer the driver position and the height of the car. Another wild thought - used Nissan Leafs are going for a bit over 10K. That might work out as a commuter. -
Engine maintenance would most likely mean the Oil Maintenance mode, which causes the car to come on to lubricate the engine. But if you are using the ICE a lot, that shouldn't happen. I agree with other comments - the driver screen shows a depeleted HVB (small hybrid battery). What is the percentage on the MFT "leaves" display, which shows the HVB %?

Raja, I was always interested in the fact that he owns a Ford Explorer for long trips. I would always have a more fuel efficient car that that, unless I needed the extra space, which I think he doesn't.
