  1. +1 for "very poor decision" by Ford. Basically I have to have a MFM subscription to see my MPGe...
  2. That is really cool. Now I wish I had gone with OpenEVSE! I got a deal on a 40 Amp Leviton system through Amazon awhile back. Way more than I need but this won't be my last EV!
  3. Meagan, Hybridbear, Thanks, So after keeping the car in the shop for the remainder of the day yesterday the techs said they believe the issue was with the hinge mechanism on the fuel door and not the release. Perhaps there's a sensor on the hinge side causing the issue? My dealership has agreed to replace the marred plastic too so both parts are on order. If everything goes well my vehicle should be good as new after the next visit. Hybridbear, you are absolutely right about not getting angry and I certainly didn't while I was talking to the customer service rep yesterday. That never accomplishes anything. I was disappointed that it took them four days to figure out that "close the fuel door" actually was a problem with the fuel door and not the fuel button or the control module but it is what it is. I've been a little inconvenienced with the time it took them to find the issue, but they will fix the damage they caused and we'll all move on. Meagen, If I need something from you, I'll let you know. I'll give these guys another shot at getting me back on the road.
  4. fwite42 or Ashley, Can either of you tell me what the resolution was on this issue? My new Fusion is also having an issue with the fuel door which has so far stumped my dealer and their ford reps. The fuel door button does not work and the instrument panel says "please close fuel door" every time I start the vehicle until I press "ok" on the left steering wheel cluster. The dealer says that they have checked the release mechanism and traced the wires to the button and the control module to make sure that all connections are good. They even replaced the control module itself. In the process they scratched and marred the black plastic console piece near the cup holders trying to get everything apart. Four days of being in the shop and still nobody has a clue what's wrong. I couldn't be much more disappointed in Ford or my dealer right now...
  5. So I find keeping a cost-based number that can be expressed as some sort of "MPG" is useful when talking to people who are unfamiliar with PHEV vehicles. Telling someone that you get 120 MPG, or 60 MPGe is only moderately useful. The former is just an overblown figure that is often way off if you drive mostly on electric and the later might diminish the actual savings of driving a part-time electric vehicle if your electricity is cheap. Another alternative is to quote the cost per mile but most people don't have a good idea of what a typical number is or what their vehicle might get so that's not very useful either. I've been keeping a spreadsheet for my vehicle that tracks MPG, MPGe, and a cost-based MPG number to give people an idea of how much it costs me to drive. Yes I realize that MPG has nothing to do with cost, but you can come up with cost based number if at a given fill-up you take the cost of your fuel + the cost of your electricity that you've consumed and figure the amount of fuel you could have purchased for that combined cost. You then divide that pseudo-gallons number by the number of miles you've driven to get an "MPGc" number that you can quote to friends. That number can and will change quite a bit depending on the costs of fuel and electricity in your area but I still find it useful. My electricity is very cheap and I always use 220V charger to further minimize charge losses so my MPGc is always higher than my MPGe number. Bottom line: My FFE is about a third of the cost to operate as my previous vehicle.
  6. Yes, those settings will become available after the 24-hour reconfirmation in your car.
  7. Well that's never fun, but it's the reason vehicles come with warranties. Don't be surprised by the failure. You're more likely to have failures of parts in the first year than in the following couple of years after that due to "Infant Mortality": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve Hope you enjoy your vehicle.
  8. So I took my car to the dealership today to have them look at the AC compressor issue reported on this thread. The technician said he checked my car's TSBs and didn't find any to apply. I have no idea if that's true, I do have one of the new 2015 models. He then proceeded to tell me that the AC going on/off was normal operation... Unfortunately it's difficult to demonstrate the issue when it's only 20 degrees outside. I'll probably have to try again, maybe at another dealership next summer when I need the A/C once more. At least the heater works properly.
  9. Topped off my car with gas today for the very first time! I didn't need gas but I wanted to get my first reading after having the car for just over a month. Also, I expect my economy to drop sharply now that winter is setting in so I wanted to get a baseline before it drops. Here are my calculations since I'm interested in tracking MPGe. Since I don't have a power meter for my charger I'm using the trip odometer reading to track my power usage. Based on several threads on this forum I'm using a flat "loss factor" of 1.21 to account for the AC/DC conversion. So based on the 170 KWh my car is reporting, that should amount to about 205.7 KWh going into the car. This method also allows me to leave out preconditioning costs. If anybody has any comments on my math, please let me know 4.14 Gal + ((170 Kwh * 1.21 AC/DC conversion factor)/ 33.41 Kwh/Gal) = 10.29 Gals equivalent4.14 * $3.229 + 205.7 * $0.0625 = $26.22187.7 MPG75.5 MPGe Tracking MPGe--not MPG.
  10. The update referenced by Hybridbear was effective in late May 2014. My new 2015 FFE is exhibiting this same behavior but was built in early September 2014. Anyone else with a newer vehicle seeing this old documented behavior? I'll contact my dealer and see if this old update still applies.
  11. I checked my vehicle and the DRL use only the main headlights, dimmed.
  12. Ok so you're basically saying that the car can't charge and run the heat/AC at the same time. I know the manual says that Go times will prioritize charging over conditioning. I was just curious if the car could draw power for both simultaneously, more in the neighbor hood of the 30A that Ford recommends.
  13. Looks like this thread has been silent for about two years but I'll pulse it just in case. I just purchased a new 2015 FFE and was curious if the active grill shutters on the energi are all up to date now. I live in cold SE Idaho where we spend a few months of the year with temps ranging from -10 to 20 degrees fahrenheit. Having those shutters closed on my morning commute will be important to minimize engine run time. Thanks!
  14. Does anyone know what the max instantaneous power draw is for a FFE? Ford recommends a 30A 240V charger but as several have discussed on this forum and others, the charger uses around 3.3KW which is just a little over half that value. I believe that the car can draw additional power at the same time for accessories (if you're plugged in while in full power accessory mode) or more likely for heating or cooling if you happen to be charging and preconditioning at the same time.
  15. Confirmed, I haven't seen it in the manual or been able to find any setting to that effect. That's pretty poor on Ford's part since my average is currently 999.9 MPG. At least the trip odometers track energy used so you could calculate MPGe yourself minus the energy losses due to charging. MFM also calculates MPGe per trip. I've been getting between 160 and 180 all week!
  16. Expected delivery slipped to 10/16 but I took delivery on 10/10.
  17. I'm not sure why, looking372. I just checked and the order date for mine was 7/25 so that was nearly 2 weeks after you ordered yours. When I ordered, my dealer said he would call his ford rep. and try to get it into the system faster, but I figured that he probably said that to everyone. I've heard that some dealers do get priority over others based on their sales performance but I have no idea if that's true or not. I do know that the dealership here where I live does really well especially for the relatively smaller population. Everyone wants a truck in Idaho! Hope you get your sticker soon. Keep checking and let us know!
  18. Ordered mine in late July. Magnetic Titanium, most of the options except park assist. I finally received the window sticker on 9/04. I'm expecting to take delivery the week of 9/28. http://fordlabels.webview.biz/webviewhybrid/WindowSticker.aspx?vin=3fa6p0su7fr160557
  19. The backup camera is standard now. The Titanium has a 10-way power passenger seat and there is a new version of MySync. Finally there are a few new colors and a few old ones have already been retired. I might have missed one or two things, but rest assured there is nothing really big. I would say that none of that is worth waiting for. The incentives for 2014 models are really good so if you find what you want on the lot then pick one up. If you can't find one then you will have to buy a 2015 as they are no longer allowing orders for 2014 models. Good luck!
