  1. Just wonding, how can you see the battery temperature while charging? I can't find any temp readout on any of the screens. I'm sure it's there because everyone talks about it, but I can't find it. Help me please!
  2. I tried and can't seem to get the fan to run without the AC compressor or the heat engaging. I tried taking it out of auto and just turning on the fan.
  3. Seems like a waste to use an energi as a police cruiser. How often could they possibly charge it, those cars are in use all day long. Wouldn't a normal hybrid be a better choice?
  4. How does that compare to the juice needed to precondition the car on a hot day? Does the AC use less juice??
  5. I had the check engine lite come on and stay on at 2000 miles. The ford dealer reprogramed my PCB iaw the following Ford TSB. Maybe this is your problem? TSB 13-12-17 ENERGI - SERVICE ENGINE SOON LAMP AND DTC P2183 Publication Date: December 6, 2013 FORD: 2013 C-MAX 2014 Fusion ISSUE: Some 2013 C-MAX Energi vehicles, and 2014 Fusion Energi vehicles built on or before 11/5/2013 may illuminate the Service Engine Soon lamp accompanied by diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2183 in the powertrain control module (PCM). ACTION: Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 87.05 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. At the Module Reprogramming screen in the IDS service tool, select Program PCM. By selecting PCM the update will be applied to the appropriate modules as required by the software update. 6. They finished working on it today. The service rep said they replaced a thermostat, but the service reciept doesn't mention anything about replacing a thermostat. It says they reprogramed the PCM in accordance with TSB 13-12-17 I looked up the TSB, it seems to be the exact problem I had. So who knows what they actually did. But the light is out now and it drives fine so I'm happy. Here is the TSB from Ford TSB 13-12-17 ENERGI - SERVICE ENGINE SOON LAMP AND DTC P2183 Publication Date: December 6, 2013 FORD: 2013 C-MAX 2014 Fusion ISSUE: Some 2013 C-MAX Energi vehicles, and 2014 Fusion Energi vehicles built on or before 11/5/2013 may illuminate the Service Engine Soon lamp accompanied by diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2183 in the powertrain control module (PCM). 7. My car hs 2100 miles on it, I've used 1 full tank of gas. Two days ago, as I was driving on the first cold day we've had in SC, the ICE ran more than usual due to the heater setting. Then the amber engine light came on and stayed on. The car seemed to drive normally. The manual says the light indicates a problem with the emission system. Anyway, I took it to Ford and they've had it two days trying to figure out what the problem is. Today they called saying they think it's a bad thermostat in the ICE. After only 2000 miles the thermostat goes bad? I find that hard to believe. They didn't have the part in stock but hope to have it installed and back on the road by Friday. We will see, but it sound pretty strange to me.
  8. I'm sure they're losing money on them, mine for sure since the sticker was 38K and they sold it to me for 31K The more I drive it the more I like it, but there's a lot to learn about these cars!
  9. How much juice does one seat heater use compared to the heater??
  10. I'm going to be gone for about 5 weeks. Couldn't I leave it at 60% and put a 1amp battery tender auto charger on the 12 v battery? Or would that gradually charge the HVB as well??
  11. Ok, that makes sense, thanks for the excellent explaination!! The amount of complexity in this car is amazing.
  12. So if I'm leaving for a few weeks, leaving my car plugged in will damage the battery?
  13. Ok, so you're saying if the battery is full, and I lightly press on the brake pedal, the friction brake engages and no regen braking occurs. But when I stop my braking score is 100%, and as I roll to a stop I hear the whir of the regen motors that you usually hear when regen braking indicating to me that the friction brakes have not engaged. Plus, you can feel a difference between the friction brakes and regen. I'm just not sure I buy the notion that electricity needs some place to go. Excess power must be disipated somehow. In my garage I have a cheap constant speed generator that produces 2 KVA. It runs the same whether I plug a light bulb into it or run a refrigerator off it. Clearly it is turning at the same RPM and running the generator no matter what the load, so the unused electricity must be dissipating some how.
  14. Ok, so it's badsically the same as engaging regen braking and does generate more power than simply coasting in normal mode. But if the ICE engages when the battery is full because there is no place to put the excess power, how come the ICE doesn't come on when you have a full battery and lightly depress the brake pedal to engage regen braking?
  15. Pushing the button on the side of the transmission selector puts it in downhill mode. What exactly does that do? It seems to coast less, is it simply engaging the regen braking? Does it generate more power than simply coasting?
  16. Yes, Its a 2014 SE. MSRP on the sticker was 38585 and I got it for 31000 plus a $590 processing fee ant tax and title fees. I think they are trying to unload the remaining 14s before the 15s arrive. I picked it up this morning and have spent the whole day trying to figure out all the gadgets and information screens. I think I understand about 20% of the stuff so far. The dealer was about a 4 hour drive from my house so I played with everything as I was driving home. Theres a lot to learn about these cars! Interestingly, they did have a 2013 sitting on the lot, they are asking too much for it, I cant imagine anyone would buy it since they want almost the same for it as a 2014! A friend of mine offered them $26.000 for it and they turned it down.
  17. I used to think backup cameras were stupid, until I rented a car that had one. Now I don't know how I ever lived without one!!
  18. Purchased a 2014 SE Energi today! Sticker MSRP 38585 Purchase price 31000 plus processing fee of 599 Tax and tags are not included, but my state charges a maximum of $300 on any vehicle purchase. I think it was a good deal, it's well below invoice. The car had been on their lot a long time, with the 2015 coming, I think they wanted to get rid of it.
  19. I haven't absolutely confirmed it, but looked at the window sticker online and it showed nav and backup sensors, but no backup camera under options. But it's a moot point now because I found another one that does have the camera with NAV and I'm buying it tomorrow!! It's a better color too and the dealer is discounting it heaivily, almost $7000 under MSRP sticker price. You might be right though, there might be some other option package it had which included the camera but it just wasn't listed as an option. Thanks to everyone that responded!
  20. I'm looking at an Energi SE and found one almost like I want except it has no backup camera. Can a backup camera be installed later by the dealer? The car has NAV and backup sensors, but no camera.
